thanks for the info, but i'm really manga only.
and seeing that this is basically slow-motion x1000, i'm going to pass on this.
i cannot wait 20 years on one manga to see a little bit of love development.
even now, all caught up, there is no chance anything will happen anytime soon (romantically), so again, they should remove the yuri tag.
it's genuinely a decent manga, but still a horrendous yuri.

The manga is close to some important development, it’s just not close to catching up with the novels. The manga will be at the
first of several kiss scenes
In like a couple of chapters, depending on how the next few chapters play out.
It’s just the
sex scenes
That’ll take forever to get to.
Also, you’ve got a Homura pfp, so I figure you’d be used to yuri where the romance is more shown not told? Why’d what you’ve seen of UraPi be any different?
because the love between Homura and Madoka never needed a kiss or an explicit date or anything, it's quite transcendant.
and by the time the first anime wraps up, if you payed attention, you know how much they actually love each other, and it's hard to fit into words.
it's the love of the millenium.
UraPi on the other hand still has only one-sided affection going out, and it's pretty disappointing.
my gripe comes from the fact that the 'romantic interest' is established very early in the manga, but it goes nowhere for what feels like a stretched out century.

What you've done here is read the first chapter of a book and immediately discard it. If you aren't willing to give something a chance why bother making a public review. Sorry you didn't bother doing your research, that's no warrant for attacking something. This being said I HAVE read the LNs and this is one of my favorite yuri series' of all time. I rarely reread LNs but this series I continuously reread. Sorawo is an incredibly complex character and piecing her past into how she acts and thinks is not only done really well on Miyazawa's part but also makes an enticing read. It brings out a thrill of decrypting an unreliable narrator that I don't get to experience too often because it's rarely done right. The romance between Sorawo and Toriko is also written quite well and I feel happens at the exact pace it needs to.
Tl;dr: do your research before you speak please. The yuri tag stays. You've said your piece, please leave
why are you so offended by what i criticized?
i said my piece after reading up to chapter 76, this is far from seeing the beginning and then leaving, up to chapter 76 means 6+ years worth of manga content.
what other research does a person need to evaluate a manga based on the yuri tag, pray tell.
and last but not least, asking someone to leave the comment section because they validly criticize a tag, is very immature; especially after claiming they haven't done any research, when the research itself is 76 chapters of the manga that spans over 6 years since first publication.

so for the both of you to whom i replied in this post:
i expect a yuri manga to have yuri within 13-20 chapters at least, or a blooming romance that isn't one-sided.
that's only my expectation, but having none of that 70 chapters later, is more than a stretch for a yuri manga.

i'll leave it at that, and i already stated that it's a great manga on it's own, just not as a yuri.
take it or leave it, but don't try to change my mind or tell me to leave, this comment section doesn't belong to anyone and opinions are opinions, you cannot forbid somebody to have one.

“One sided affection”? They literally had a mutual confession scene in the hot springs arc. Sure, Sorawo’s struggling with her emotions due to her various hangups from her past (some of which are being dealt with in this current arc), but it’s still obvious that they both love each other.
Like, I love Madoka Magica in general and MadoHomu specifically, but that series is afraid of actually committing to any relationships, while UraPi does actually commit to its central relationship, it just takes its time to let the relationships grow and mature naturally.
And the usage of the girls love tag is with the knowledge from the source material that the series commits to the relationship in the long term. Like, it’s fine to dislike slow burn, I get it, but your personal tastes don’t dictate genre. It’d be like if someone tried arguing that Kannazuki no Miko isn’t yuri since they dislike toxic relationships: it’s fine to dislike toxic relationships, but that doesn’t discount the yuri. It’s also fine to dislike slowburn, but that also doesn’t discount the yuri.

a bit of handholding and telling someone they love them, holds zero meaning in this manga lmfao.
A for effort, though.
it's still an alright manga.
I am seriously going to need you to either not talk about this series until this arc is over, or read one of the spoilers I provided, such as this one, which spoils the climax of the current arc:

The author of this series would be driven to literal IRL violence if they heard you saying this kinda shit. You'd be taking your life into your hands lol, that person is fucking SERIOUS about Yuri, they've literally made public presentations on the topic with titles like "Yuri Made Me Human".

Yeah, it's incredible lmao. Imagine spending almost a decade writing some of the most unique, powerful yuri stories, taking great care not to fall into tropes and cliches, all the while praising, defending, and working to move the genre forward, and ripping into people who minimize sapphic love. You put your pen down, check out some comments, and see someone saying that...

A woman desperately risking her life to find the woman she's in love with who's gone missing
A woman falling in love at first sight
A woman's feelings for another woman being strong enough to be used by a monster who tricks people by appearing as their loved ones to trick them
Another
woman desperately risking her life to find the woman she loves who's gone missing, who in turn has gone missing while looking for the woman that she loves who has gone missing
A woman willingly entering a lethal battlefield for a frantic rescue attempt because she wants to make the woman she loves happy
A woman getting over her reservations about gunning down humans or anything human-shaped the moment the woman she loves is in danger
A woman constantly getting distracted by just how intensely beautiful the woman she loves is
A woman barely even caring about the fact that she's face to face with a incomprehensible, malicious, eldritch monstrosity, because the woman she loves is dying in front of her
A woman becoming paralyzed in fear at just the memory of the woman she loves almost dying
A woman seething at the very idea of including others in the bond she has with the woman she loves
A woman brimming with jealousy the moment the woman she loves points her love at someone else
A woman brimming with hatred towards the person who hurt and keeps hurting the woman she loves
A woman striving to better herself to not disappoint the woman she loves
A woman exploding with rage when the woman she loves is threatened in front of her
A woman immediately feeling safe and secure the moment she lays eyes on the woman she loves, despite having been kidnapped, trapped in an unknown location full of people trying to kill her, seconds after almost being executed
A woman having no trouble killing to protect the woman she loves
A woman doing everything in her power to save the woman she loves, even if it makes her hate her for it, in the face of indescribable horrors
A woman confessing her love to another woman
A woman assuming that her confession is leading to a relationship, and being absolutely gutted and torn to shreds when she realizes she's been misunderstood
A woman proclaiming that she wants to spend the rest of her life together with the woman she loves
A woman seething at the fact that she woman she loves doesn't turn to her for help
A woman constantly putting the safety of the woman she loves above her own
A woman being overcome with such yearning when an opportunity to see the woman she loves naked presents herself that she can barely contain herself
A woman asking another woman to accompany her and the woman she loves to their hot springs trip because she's afraid she might go crazy if the two of them are on their own
A woman calling the woman she loves a living, breathing, work of art upon seeing her even partially naked
A woman hating the woman that hurt and manipulated the woman she loves to such an intense degree that it causes her to be haunted by her, in place of one of the two women who actually knew and loved her
A woman confessing her love to another woman again
A woman reciprocating said confession in a drunken state
A woman showing explicit sexual interest in another woman, who in turn starts seething with hatred because she's been trying so incredibly hard not to act on her own interest
A woman resisting a direct attempt at brainwashing by an otherworldly being trying to tear her away from the woman she loves, because the idea of being separate from her is that foreign to her

Two women knowing each other so well they're able to pick up on even the most minute changes in mood
Two women constantly comforting each other in each other's time of need, both through gentle, caring physical intimacy as well as constant affirmations that everything will be alright as long as they're together
Two women coming to trust each other so implicitly that the idea of them hurting or betraying each other simply has no place in their minds anymore
Two women being able to resist the kind of fear that leaves grown, hardened men shaking and throwing up, by virtue of them being there for each other
Two women being able to treat expeditions into a lethal, alternate dimension seemingly built for the express purpose of driving humans crazy with fear, as casual, fun excursions out to town, due to being so taken with one another

...isn't a sign of anything romantic, and should not be considered yuri. It's "just a bit of handholding". It "doesn't mean anything".

Like... what do you even do at that point? What do you say to someone who thinks two women being in love doesn't count as yuri? Where do we go from here?

i'll skip spoilers, i'm still reading this after all.

it's almost like a cult, how so many of you heatedly defend this manga.
that love you describe in your lines, hardly comes across in the manga, i'm sorry for you.
it's not conveyed very well, neither is it compelling to bury romance in so much world building and so much fever-dream-like lore, that you literally lose track of it over multiple volumes.
it's gotten better recently, for sure, and the manga by itself is pretty great, but i couldn't really care less about what the author has done or has been presenting, i am only judging this one manga by how it's doing yuri, that's it, nothing more and nothing less.
besides, the ''woman who's gone missing'' has this unnatural pull on more than our protagonist.
not once have i considered it as love, and it's not conveyed as love, either.
the writing in the manga is really well done, the world building and presentations are really really good, but i'm pretty much tired of debating the yuri aspect already.
if you hardcore fans see all that love in this manga, good for you, i don't see it.

but 10/10 profile pic, i love that yuri.

Ah, sorry, you must've misunderstood. I'm not defending the manga - you don't really have an actual argument, so there's no need to, and I've already seen you say two women confessing their love to each other wasn't a sign of anything romantic, so I more or less understand you're not actually living in reality. I was more just amazed at the level of mental gymnastics someone would have to go through to get to the conclusion that this isn't yuri, as like, a general thing.

So, don't worry about it and just keep on reading. There's really nothing to 'debate' here

they confessed?
you mean the one time where the confession didn't receive a reply, or the second time where the confession was cut in half because of a character fainting.
yes, very romantic, very love, very good.

I dunno, even after this recent chapter I’m going to have to agree that nothing romantic will ever happen in this series. Nothing at all!
