Drama, my theory is that it's a tendency that aims to portray things like: "hey, don't be afraid to tell your feelings before it's too late", "you snooze you lose". This would explain why the losing childhood friend in most series is such a common plot.
Here i would base it in the scene of Holo hesitating in telling him her feelings when he leaves Zenith.
