Ehh, I don't think her life experience has anything to do with it, both as then affinities would be way more metagamed in the setting the second that sort of control is introduced and thematically it would smack way too fatalistic for a series like this.

Just saying my impression of it. I don't think there will be any dark stuff after the beginning of the series and I'm completely fine with that, but I also wish the author would address the darker happenings in this world too...

Honestly love the implication of the dark being before the light in the crystal's displaying order.
It would feel differently if it went light then dark, but absorbing all light then 'exploding' with it is a wonderful metaphor for my heart whenever Lily smiles.

It’s quite subtle but his shadow inventory bag and cloaking spells certainly speak “dark”, although there’s no proper explicit introduction to his affinity.
