It's friendly banter. If you can't talk total shit at your friends or handle it when they playfully roast you without someone getting hurt or going too far, you aren't true friends.

And she says while being completely exhausted and him hardly breaking a sweat. I would attribute it to frustration, not being a toxic person.
Furthermore, Had she intended to actually be a bitch and cut him down, she wouldn't just sit out and watch during the end of the chapter, she would have been jeering at him from the sidelines.

Now... the wonder about their past. Did they actually know each other in high school, or was she a shy admirer of him during that time?
And for everyone thinking she is truly angry at him for enjoying himself... she isn't. She is angry at herself for not being able to do something with him that he enjoys. She knows he doesn't quite enjoy the activities she does, so she tried this... but found she was bad at it. Kind of disheartening for her.

Yeah, she is also annoyed at herself. But at the same time, she does seem to be genuinely angry at him for enjoying himself, and that is what makes her bad, even if not necessarily a lot.

If that were the case, she wouldn't be watching him climb happily at the end. If anything it's frustration borne out of competitiveness.
