As the title suggests. Anyone got any good and free (or pirateable) VPNs to suggest? Connecting to a lot of public networks recently so some extra security would be nice.

Good and free? That's difficult. I guess protonvpn would work but it's limited and you can't run P2P stuff

An ssh tunnel to your server or dns-over-xyz (https, tls, dnscrypt) + something against deep packet inspection would get you better security.

I started using Proton a bit after this post. It works good enough for me and I'm not tech savvy enough to even know what a P2P connection is so the restrictions mean nothing to me

I'd highly recommend proton vpn, I use it personally for my phone.

the only downside is that it's one device per free account, but alts negate that.
They have dedicated free servers that usually say they are full (and I don't doubt that), but I've never experienced any sort of speed limitations. Then again, I only ever look at Twitter or Instagram through it.

if you want a paid VPN surfshark and PIA are really good, should you decide on paying of course.
I have used both personally.

hope this helps :D

For me, a VPN is mostly about having a smoother browsing experience and not having to think too much about connection problems. I wasn’t really looking for a bunch of extra features, just something that worked when I needed it.

Mysterium VPN ended up being the one I kept using because it gave me the flexibility I wanted without making things complicated.

Or get Mullvad. They're the only VPN I would trust, particularly since they were raided by the police but they found nothing because they keep no logs. Free vpn's are counter intuitive. At best they do nothing to protect you, at worst they're selling all of your data to the highest bidder.
Wanted to update this, but can't. One of Mullvads owners has been funding far-right parties in Sweden that support things like mas deportation, etc. They are the reason the Swedish government has been deporting elders suffering from dementia and widows who had been living there for decades.

I now suggest IVPN, similar service without giving money to racists.
