Is insane to me that this manga went (over) 90 chapters without naming one of the characters who is, at this point, one of the most important in the series.

This series really is such a ride. And given how much it has evolved, there's no way it was all planned out from the start. So many characters got "promoted" from background, which is pretty cool. Usually manga just resort to things like transfer students to explain how some cool character wasn't around before, but in Watamote, they were around. Just living their own lives. It gives a better sense of a living world that doesn't exist simply for plot convenience. Credit to the character design for having so many uniquely designed background characters just in case they became important later, which many of them did.

Yuri became #2? because of this chill vibes. It was the 2022 issue character polls? In that polls even Tomoko is NOT #1. Tomoki is #8 though, so they need to dress him like a girl LOL.

Sudden Yuri lore, including Yuri-Mama of course! BTW was it mentioned before that Yuri has siblings? I'm personally not big fan of her, but it was pretty interesting and that little introspection in the end. Besides Yuri with her hairs down is pretty rare sight.
My girl Nemo never disappoints with her attitude and faces! And this black pajamas looks awesome, she always wears light tone clothes so this contrasting look is really refreshing.

AFAIK NT said this series was planned as gag-manga about loner loser Tomoko with few volumes at best. Then it preformed a bit better than expected (including (in)famous 4chan's meddling) so they continued, but soon premise exhausted itself that led to chapters 60-80 stagnation and manga would have been ended if not for school trip arc.

The first stranger he met was a worker watching manga at a coffee shop (St*r$$$$), which also got animated. She peeped on the manga, lol. It was sweet. Bittersweet. He stopped going to the coffee shop at the chapter end.
