She has always been self-conscious and hated herself.
Worlds biggest introvert with hyper imposter syndrome.
...Have you not been paying attention at all?
It's really funny how my whole comment was about "Ajisai vs Mai", and I got 3 answers to a single line about Renako's self-esteem
I literally just don't remember 80% of the plot, 'cause this manga drags out for too long (And I read like 200 yuri ongoings), so my bad, I'll delete that single line

But anyway, it wasn't even the main point of the comment :nyoron:

I'm just gonna cope and guess that those were just excuses Renako gave, to avoid the real reason she doesn't want to
Sometimes I wonder about people, this is literally spelled out in the chapter as the reason why she's said and done what she has and people still insist on that being wrong...

I mean, don't write it if you don't wanna talk about it - but jokes aside it's all related to how she treats them. She isn't even considering picking between them. You'll notice she never mentions picking one or the other, just responding to their confession in order, nor does any part of this chapter delve into her thinking about a romantic relationship with either one (hell, it actually backtracks from her original stance of wanting to be friends). She hasn't grown enough to realize that her true personality and her fake one will slowly become one over time, and it already has started to happen.

Treating Mai and Ajisai's feeling the same is just wrong. The former has simply pushed her feelings onto Renako, forcing her to do things and is the reason this has the sexual violence tag. Ajisai has been nothing but sweet and considerate save the one time she was selfish and ran away where Renako followed her without being asked because she cared. There's surely only one choice.

It's painfully familiar seeing the poor girl taking something as a rejection, Mai not kissing her, and extrapolating that to everyone hating her and wanting to ceases existing. At least her little sister is there, forcing her way through the self-hatred and making her do what she needs to do to get back out of it.

she absolutely need a hug.
i can confirm that childhood trauma is a big deal. i experienced it back in the elementary school. i got hated by my whole grade for doing something right, and it guts wrenching when the teachers all siding with them. i ended up with no friends from my grade until graduation. i was lucky enough that i feign ignorance that time and just bullshitting trough it. but looking back, if I'm not, i dunno if i still around or not. i just realized how bad my position that time when im on highschool listening to my friend story when they seeking advise from me.
man, i don't know if i have strength to read the novel since many above spoiler told me it getting worse. not because how bad it is, but how close to home it feel

sips tea These are the confidence issues I was talking about. To answer some questions. No, Mai isn't on the same level as Aachan. Even the Narrative conveys this. But...well. Mai is still necessary to the Narrative.

But also to some people: What do you mean? The fact the Ajisai is the Best Girl and this manga's Heroine remains. I didn't say protagonist or female lead(Although she absolutely is one).

People who hate Renako don't understand how awful it is to hate yourself and be scared of making the people you care about go away from you.

I think many of us can relate to being so free during childhood and growing scared to talk after some type of trauma.

I'm still reading the LN from scratch, but seeing this chapter, I can see how the cute drawings hide the nerve-wracking situation Renako is in. You guys need to see things beyond just waifu war:
"Renako is so stupid, she didn't accept Ajisai's confession, I hate you, you dumb!"
"How can you treat Mai's love on the same level as Ajisai's, when Mai tried to assault you?!" (ignoring all the growth and help Mai has given, even to Ajisai).

How can she even respond to love when she barely loves herself? :wowee:

Oof.

This has been something she has struggled with before, but I didnt think it would come barreling down all at once here.

She always has had self-esteem issues since the beginning, thats been known. But yeesh...

How does one get over this hump? Despite everything in the story so far, she has yet to fix the self-esteem and self-doubt she has. She has moments, but its hardly ever consistent, and she tends to fall back to the same habits anyways.

My guess is maybe she needs to reflect and speak on what she truly should be. Does she want to be always gloomy or does she want to be as confident as she claims? Until she can definitively find herself by answering that question, she will never truly progress. Truly the dilemma of being a teen.

I guess Kaho is next, and thats been desperately needed, feels like she's been immensely side lined for ages since the time Renako tried to reconcile with Mai. Godspeed to Iron Board over there.

Sometimes you get a long break and forget about what is going on. This series resumed really well. Renako should date them both. She can do lewd hand holding with Ajisai and Mai can get between her knees again. Each girl perfect for their role.
