Because Mai doesn't respect Renako's choices and will manipulate her in the worst way possible to make Renako obey her will (Mai date hunting arc, prolly the worst event in the manga thus far). Renako is spineless because she doesn't want any of this, she just want a normal high school life, normal friends and normal relationships. She's doing her best to fit in and Mai is there to ruin her every avenue. Renako doesn't love Mai, but Mai keeps forcing herself onto Renako. It's a normal reaction not to pursue love with Mai because she doesn't love Mai in the first place, and she's rightfully scared. Mai is already on record prepared to manipulate and guilt trip the living shit out of Renako.

But in this arc, there's a natural progression on her relationship with Ajisai, since it was Renako who initiated all of it. She pursued Ajisai out of her own will, she wants to be near Ajisai, and there was almost character development there. But Mai just had to go and ruin everything.

That’s a little unfair to Mai. She didn’t setup the date hunting as a manipulation tactic. She genuinely believed she had irreparably screwed things up with Renako and was looking to console herself with a rebound (at a Mai level of extra-ness). Moreover, Renako only found out about it because she put things together based on an offhand comment from Ajisai.

Also saying that Renako doesn’t love Mai goes against what Renako herself says. She admits that she has feelings for Mai that she’s just too embarrassed and scared to face. Renako’s entire arc is realizing that chasing an artificial ideal of being “normal” and repressing herself doesn’t just hurt her, but the people she loves as well.

I’m not saying that Mai isn’t flawed or that she didn’t do anything wrong, but your analysis of these characters is ignoring the actual text of the story.

Because Mai is an extremely beautifull girl that spend her time flirting with Renako who has no self esteem, is ascocial, introvert, and never had any friends.
It's obvious she would be attracted to Mai, but she told it many time, it's only physical because she fell in love with Ajisai from the start of the manga, but is unable to understand that she love her because she dont have any self esteem.

Author keep making it ultra obvious that Renako is socialy inept, but people brush it off and ignore it.

We are aware of exactly how bad Renako’s self esteem and social skills are because we are privy to her inner thoughts. Remember that we’re told that Renako’s social masking works, meaning that she’s able to hide her introversion and social anxiety from her peers. What’s obvious to us is not obvious to the other characters in the story.

I can't see Kaho as Renako's love interested either. She's more like the only genuinely friend for Renako, well idk how much their development in vol 5-6 tho

If it was only physical, Renako wouldn't have gone after Mai during the whole date hunting thing and she also wouldn't have offered her a lap pillow either. If anything, I'd say what she has for Ajisai is what that's only physical. It's reeks of virgin harem MC.

I can't see Kaho as the love interest either (at least for now) but who knows about the future plot. Since, even the cold hearted Satsuki slowly also fall to Renako
