A miscalculation, perhaps. She believed Claire would value her life over her percieved duty as a noble, and that their feelings for each other would seal the deal.
I think she thought this was the only solution because she understand Claire well. GOtta remember she was bragging that she knows mroe about the story than the devs (bullshit but sure lol) and that she wrote fanfics and yada yada... so yeah maybe in her head just brute forcing Claire into the situation would be the best way to do it since other routes MAYBE were impossible.
Considering they already said they won't adapt the second arc of the novel, you better believe that xD.
To be fair if I heard that "being nobility killed my mother" I would've turned my back against them, no pride in that sh*tshow. Maybe Rae thought that learning that truth was going to change her
