I have to wonder if Rae truly believed Claire would follow her plan. Above all things, Claire was proud of her nobility and her obligations as a noble. It's one of the things that made Rae fall in love with her in the first place.

Was she thinking that Claire's life meant more to her than her honor or was she merely hoping against hope that that would be the case?

It's kind of hard to say which aspect Rae thought would be a tipping point. Whether it was the radicalization or her life or what.

This is the plan she worked out with Dole so her goal has always been to replace "the heroine's" role with "the villainess". But not sure how she was planning to accomplish that before the Love Scales.

If we assume Claire is going to play the villainess and that this manga will get a happy ending, then I'm guessing they might pull off some faked death shenanigans. "Claire the evil noble has died along with all the rest of the nobility, I'm just Claire the nobody!"
