I'm bemused by how people react to couple dynamics in general, not just in this manga (or manga as a whole).
They always pick a favorite and stick with him or her, even when it makes no sense in the story for them to be chosen.

"Nene should be with Sumika"... Why? The latter is in love with someone else and the former sank her own ship willingly. And this chapter is the coral reef that forms from said wreckage.
