"We can't figure out a motive, and she fervently denied it throughout the entire process, but our single witness (a likely traumatized child who didn't even see it happening) says she did it so lets not bother to investigate further."

Is Japans police force incompetent?

I bet that in the end it'll turn out to be something like he or his mother "accidentally" killed his abusive father and the mother convinced him to frame Nao's mom because the truth would ruin the shop's reputation and force them to close down.
And his excuse will be that he was just a dumb kid that got manipulated and had no idea that Nao's mom would get imprisoned for life.

The male lead is so weird, I love this. It's going to be a wild ride especially once he finds out who Nao actually is lmao
@fff123fff321 Japan's conviction rate is pretty high >90%- it's a policy of guilty until proven innocent out there.

i love when character have gone mad from rage and sorrow and are in a I don't give a fuck mode, like ''idk lemme interrupt this marriage'' they lose all sense from shame and is quite fun.

on another note, @fff123fff321 the japanese criminal system work based on the assumption that the person committed the crime, and it's up to the defense prove that they didn't. Plus they can interrogate without the presence of a lawyer, and etc. Is far more complex than that, but I recommend researching a bit, is very interesting, especially considering the fact they have death penalty (by hanging).

It's just recently they try to change the policy of the conviction, but it's still an uphill battle since police officers and persecutors are pressured by the bosses to finished the cases quickly, it's even worse when there is political and or wealthy family is involved.

The blaming to perperator family is also strong in China, South Korea and Japan.
