I genuinely enjoy this manga series, I've watched some recaps and read some chapters but it's genuinely growing tired of what the MC keeps doing

He shouldn't keep hiding his power and identity, and also MAY WE STOP MAKING HIM FAT💔

I will never understand why he is so hellbent on trying to follow the story. The story hasn't been following its course since the very beginning, and a lot of characters here would've been killed or suspended from school already if our MC had not interfered in one way or another. Not to mention he keeps trying to respect the original Pig boys feelings, and yet, he wont do anything to try and win the girl over. He is happy with her going after some other dude, WTF? Is the premise that he can log out as long as the story reaches its written ending? Because if that is not the case, then I have no idea why he would go out of his way to follow said story...also, from what I can tell, the story itself is multiple choice, with multiple routes, multiple endings to those routes, and a completely different campaign if you choose the guy protag or the girl protag? But you can customize your character, so your character is not really the protag but you are still following the protag? What is this mess of a story? It doesn't help that there are multiple "players" messing around, so I don't know how he expects the story to play out when there are so many unknowns around him. Like I said, too messy of a story, and our MC's goals leave WAY TOO MUCH to be desired.

I'm kinda divided with this manga if i'm being honest.
I really like the premise of a really good player having to play as the weakest link in the story and having to rely on their knowleadge of the game to turn the tables, while also having their knowleadge turn useless by outside factors (In this case, Other Players) It really hooked me on the first chapters thanks to that... But quite quickly he became unbelievable OP, being able to use end-game skills with 0 drawbacks turning all the stakes on fights involving him to rock bottom.
But then! I got hooked again by the supporting cast hating on MC and how Karou would affect the MC negatively... Until it was revealed that Karou is just a doormat that misses her orbital and the rest of NPC's are 1 note. Love tenma tho, she has some nuance at least.
This is to say that the pacing of the story is really slow and the art is doing some heavy lifting. It kind of feels like someone read Eminence in Shadow and thought "What if, this. But without the comedy aspect of it?" (Not that I liked Eminence in Shadow either, but I felt heavy similarities between them)

Not throwing hate to y'all who like this btw. I just came to this series with a completely different expectation to what it was going to be. Could see my younger self liking it actually. Can a LN or WN reader spoil me if the roles of the character stay the same as they are now?

I wonder if the author knows how little, to no catharsis there is in this story. Like...not even the side plots are entertaining. Its all so vague, I dont even know shit about any of the main characters. Theres more info on Kuga and Tenma ffs.

About that:
So apparently Tsukishima, the blond dude, is about to suffer the consequences of his actions soon enough. So yeah, there's genuine consequences if Butao/MC shows his true strength or anyone in Class E.
go on

74 chapters, the mc just runs around doing nothing. No level up, no new skills, no new techniques, no new way to utilize his gluttony skill. He wants things to go his way but does close to nothing to achieve those lol.

Tsukijima is trying so hard to be the protagonist for Kaoru, that he doesn't realise he is being Butao.

Btw. Genz will no longer update on mangadex due to a new policy that bans scanlators that put chapters behind paywalls so if you want to read the next chapter you will have to find it somewhere else.

The biggest issue here, it's that even though he has his reasons to act the way he does, it doesn't make for a very interesting read. You might as well read a story about a middle aged guy going to work every day and always making the safest choices in his life. It makes sense for him to do so, but it doesn't make for a very exciting read. Also, his goal is meaningless because he has no control over the entirety of the world. He is limiting himself due to fear, while also not taking into account that HIS choices are not the only ones that affect the world and the story, and that the moment he came into being this "evil" character, the story had already deviated from what he knew, since he is not acting the way the original character did. It's pretty convoluted, dumb, and kind of boring. Will it get better? Who knows, as long as they continue dropping translated chapters, I'll keep coming back, since I don't really lose anything from speed reading a chapter every couple of weeks (or months), but I'm not expecting much more than bland disappointment.

Man this might be the worst heroine that I've ever read in my whole life, and the bad pacing of the story really tilts me to kinda dislike this. The first volumes were decent, now it's slowly becoming your normal superheroes troupe where the mc comes at the last moment, worst thing is Kaoru might seem to not have common sense bestowed, welp great one from the author for making her very dis-likeable! Gonna hold this one until it has more than 100 chapters.

Yep, 1/10 story. Others in this thread put it as good as I can (or better). So to anyone interested in superior stories with a similar theme/vibe, I recommend in no particular order...

  1. I Killed an Academy Player.
  2. The Extra's Academy Survival Guide
  3. The Novel's Extra
  4. SSS-Class Suicide Hunter

1/0 is too low. I think 5/10 is fine, but "I killed an academy player" suck ass.

I agree partially. I don't mind her personality, the real problem is that she severely lacks a purpose in the story. If you remove Kaoru nothing is lost. She's a heroine that gets conquered by cucking the character the MC is in, and they have no interaction in the game plot except for the parts where he "sexually harasses" her. Everyone who reads the manga, their first impression is that MC should not end up with her and that's something and I agree.
The fact that the author introduces more interesting heroines and even some that end up joining Souta's team are better. Satsuki is an example, Risa, Kuga and Tenma too.

Let's be real the only thing this manga has going for it is the art. So I give it a 1. Again, I don't want to go too deep into it because it's all already been said, but the plot is ass, the fights are ass, the characters are ass, the pacing (holy fuck especially the pacing) is ass, world building is ass, etc.

The worst part of the manga though for me, is how it's JUST good enough to NOT get me to drop it and dangled me along in the hopes it gets better. But no, it never does. So a 1/10 is completely justified in my opinion. If it was just absolute dogwater from the start, it's an easy drop.

"I killed an academy player" isn't a masterpiece, but it's fun to read; it made me feel more emotions than frustration, which is more than I can say for this awful manga.

There's no catharsis in this story. It's been suspense and build up for 74 chapter, with maybe 2 exceptions
Yeah thats a big problem with this series. Its understandable MC has to hide himself, but do we need 50-60 chapters of this?

There are so many better ways to go about this really. Like have MC

1. manipulate or befriend side-characters more (I know he has friends but they almost never interact when he’s playing “dumb”)

2. have a tangible villain that closes in on MC and is always threatening to expose him if they find out the truth

3. show us he’s hiding every 10 chapters or so then have him make ACTUAL progress for once instead of focusing on Kaoru and her nonexistent story and having him be the dumb idiot for 20 chapters straight.

The author doesn’t even have to go any of these specific routes. They just have to stop focusing on EVERY detail of the side-characters MC barely interacts with and focus more on MC and his group actually going through the game and making progress building up strength.

It really is that simple and it annoys me that this series is gonna go on for another 200 chapters and we’ll still be stuck in the academy with an E rank MC. No excuses for this. This story is poorly paced and I wish they just gave up at this point.

God isekai readers are insufferable. They just want power fantasy. There's like a million boring horseshit powerfantasy out there. This is actually decent compared to those that are basicaully deus ex machina written by losers of society who has bland personalities and no sense of any humor or banter. Sensitive losers who always makes petty villains be annoying and lose easily and allies that are subservient to MC and have no other identity and zero relationship outside of being an MC simp.
This reads like a strawman for criticism

You don’t need a bland power fantasy protag to make the plot good. What people are complaining about is how this MC has accomplished nothing in 70+ chapters other than defeating a demon and getting in the way of that test taker guy.

Heck your complaining about typical isekai characters being bland (they are) but what in the hell is the point of kaoru?

She’s focused on so much, yet her defining trait is what? Genuinely the only thing that comes to mind is that she hates the ranking system and bullying which is just…every academy heroine ever?

MC’s friends are someone who knows about the game and a girl npc who’s destined to dropout. Its interesting on paper but you barely see them except for occasionally scheming, so we only know there backstories and that they have the same goal as MC…that’s it. (Kinda like every isekai heroine ever)

MC himself only really is shown to be focusing on the future to protect is family and friends, yet inside school barely interacts with them except admittedly his sister.

His sister is genuinely the only okay character interaction butao has had because an entire arc was dedicated to her and we got to see how she dealt with her brothers issues.

Honestly, maybe this changes 200 chapters from now, but if its been 74 chapters and the emphasis is still Kaoru and her dumbass than I think the story might just be missing the mark…just a bit.
