If you have played all the yakuza games, Yakuza 6 is extremely painful as it shows even an invincible legend as Kiryu can't do much against money and political power.

Or real life corruption where the culprit straight up murdered people and took billions but in the end they just get a few years jail at most. A comfortable one at that. Life just sucks like that

@grandygon I don't think so, the butler cares more about his position as a butler of a noble house rather than Atoire herself. evidently when he was introduced our MC explicitly noted that he did nothing when Atorie was exiled in the first place, but came back searching only when the will was discovered. Even if we give him the benefit of doubt that as a butler he could do nothing to save her, this chapter showed that he chose to get his position back at the cost of his 'master'.

@Grimmycoffee it was a setup. Stevens was likely fired as a head butler when Famas took over the household, and he was promised to get his position back if he does what Famas wants (the will situation).
