What do you think about scanlators who are hording a lot of series and hiding the recent chapters on their site behind paywalls.

I'm thinking about what is the general opinion about scanlators who are hoarding tons of manga and intentionally slow updates to promote advanced chapters on their site behind a paywall.

I've noticed that two of them (arvencomics.com and asmotoon.com) have near-identical frontends, identical site currencies, and word-for-word identical DMCA pages, both lacking an actual email address where they state they have a designated copyright complaint agent

Other than the official webtoons themselves the paywall lock is annoying. And suspicious when like 4 of them do the exact same series at once lol (and i've seen some where a lot of ppl say they are a scam/where they did pay and still didn't get recompensated or so)

i mean, i'm surprised more ppl haven't been petty and contacted Naver/Kakao/etc and all the korean sites for their dmcas or so, i know a couple sites got shut down but i suppose some prolly would just change their names. I know Realm had some issues so they became Rizz Fables but ironically they're the only long-strip/Korean webtoon site that DOESN'T lock their chapters behind a paywall

But other than being like 20 chapters ahead or so they def shouldn't charge when a series gets an 'official' English b/c at least on Webtoon (as far as i know) the 'coins' you spend do go to the author as well (plus the app does actually let you read some chapters if you play an ad versus like mobile games that rly push you to pay), it does seem at least that MD seems to have put an 'upload freeze' on most of them

Isn't it even more illegal? Like we all know fan translations of manga are a very grey area on thin ice but putting those stuff behind paywall? Yikes. At most i can understand some tipping page like kofi like i had seen for jdrama fansubbers. (The closest thing i saw like this for jdrama fansub community is patreon where the subber releases the subs earlier than for "general" public on website)
