Welcome to our episode today of Mangadex: What Would You Do?

Here's our situation for today's show: it's late at night, and the weather is somewhat cold. You are chilling under your kotatsu, covered in your blanket, sipping a glass of umesake, snacking on some dried squid,

watching some slice of life anime, trying to study Japanese, shitposting on Mangadex, basically spending your night like a true proud weeb.

All of a sudden, you hear knocks on your door. You hesitatingly open the door, only to see a stranger. The person doesn't seem to be fluent in your native language, but what you can make out from what's being said is that this person is asking for a place to stay.

What would you do?

I was raised Catholic and man did half the saints specialize in hospitality. I think it was a Jewish holdover.

Fun fact: Saint Nicholas's parents are said to have died because they let the those with the plague stay at their house as an act of hospitality. (At least according to Veggietales.)


So what I'm saying is I would let a stranger bed in my house for a little bit because I had the charity principle nailed into me

Well, I can't even imagine myself in this scenario, since I despise seafood.

But, if left out, I'd say "no way". Even if they screamed that a killer was after them, I'd be like "lemme call the police, you stay outside".

I'm very distrustful, so I wouldn't risk letting them in and closing the door, only to have a gun to my head a second later. Maybe I'd let them in if they got naked first so I could see if they were hiding any weapons. MAYBE!!

I like to consider myself a good person, but I don't trust like that lol.
Language barrier might be a problem but at best if I was able to I'd just mime it out somehow to give them some money for a motel room or something.

I've always thought about what I'd do if someone came to my door claiming to be in trouble or being chased. In college I lived in a shit neighborhood so it was a strong possibility lol. Someone got robbed at gunpoint just a few blocks from my house once.
I had an attached garage so I think I'd go open the external garage door with the remote but slam the door to the house itself shut and locked as the external door is opening. Then I'd tell them to use the remote to shut themselves into the garage while I call the cops. That way if they truly were looking to hide they're hidden in a safe spot behind a basically locked door while help gets there and they also don't have access to me and my home if they are looking to cause trouble.

Or alternatively, if I didn't have an attached garage like that and had my car parked on the street, unlock my car from inside my house and have them hide in there with the doors locked. If they were truly in danger it'd be better than nothing. Not like they're gonna be able to hotwire my car fast enough lol, but even still I'd rather someone steal my car than let someone who needs help die outside. Not like it's worth anything anyway lol.

Been raised in a manner that compels me to offer food and shelter so yeah I'd let them in but at the same time I'd keep my iron loaded and on me just in case.

Realistically, I would call my mum and ask her if we are waiting for someone to knock on our door, our house is a fortress, so there are no windows or points of view because walls block everything, so I wouldn't be able to see who is at the other side. If she says no, then sorry stranger, this house has been abandoned for 10 years.
