Not really. Dude specifically said he doesn't think he ever had feelings for her. Can't steal something from someone if they never had it to begin with. But what could have happened differently between these three is one of them being dead, and the other two being in a marriage of convenience where one person has unreciprocated feelings for the other, which is probably one of the circles of hell in terms of how miserable one or both of them are going to end up.
