So from what I've seen from Jeanette in this season, she only wants familial love, not the throne. When Mr. Black brought up that she'd be an amazing ruler, she felt uneasy. She feels all alone and cast out that she even had to confide with an acquaintance about her feelings. She wanted to write a letter to know more about Claude's health but knows that Athy wouldn't really fill her in with the details. Because she's aware that for them, she's just an outsider. And she's hurt because of that. She's more perceptive than she looks even though the Alpheus household kept her in the dark most of her life and sometimes emotionally abuses her. She's beginning to suspect Mr. Black. She didn't really had any romantic feelings for Ijekiel and only looked up to him as an older brother figure. And there must've been some times when she got used with the comfort and thought that they'll still be close even if she moves to her "true family" that's what made Ijekiel misunderstood her.
Only a few chapters in and the story's already this intense. Though, I do feel about the pacing..
