I dropped this in like the teen chapters. It felt so over done and generic. Can anyone who has read it tell me if it’s actually a satisfying conclusion or if it got the axe?

I checked out around the same time but looked back ever now and then. Unfortunately it didn't really go anywhere and the author clearly new this.

They had setup for this license exam to be full hunters/ninja/etc. with a bunch of new characters getting introduced. Then a few chapters later the plant monsters crash the exam and attack all of Japan. Then a few chapters later, the manga ends.

The last 1/3 of this manga is just speed running the ending. Character arcs and plot lines being introduced and resolved in quick succession just to reach a classic safe/non-committal conclusion. "The monsters are gone, no one important died even when we said they would, the end." That's all a rather harsh review for things likely outside Yunemoto's control, so I wish them luck on their next work.

For all that I know, he had a great story to tell; but delivering that story with standard seinen pacing — which is simply never good — caused the patience of his audience to be exhausted.

An author who wants to tell an ambitious story should never milk things.

welp, at least the story ended with a happy note
I hate to be "that guy", but that is basically like saying "at least the sun rose today". It was never going to end a different way.
Even though the last chapter spent a sizeable chunk of it's time implying the MC was dead, it was just a fake out to milk some drama before jumping into a happy ending montage of all the characters. A safe and forgettable ending through and through.

Well, it was an ending. Very unsatisfying last arc everything rushed and last minute exposition to asspull a conclusion. The problem with being axed.

My favorite character was the single Dad.
