Fantastic mate, keep them coming if you can.
Agate looks even more tsundere in the preserialization version, hahaha.
Alraira design was better here, and her concept much more fun, why did she change it?

I don't really like how the official translations look either, but if you look up the kana for the character's names, you can kind of see where they were coming from.

The characters in this manga all have made up fantasy names with no real basis in western names. I think the translator was aiming for something phonetically close to the original rather than trying to find a spelling for the names that were aesthetically pleasing. Agott doesn't look as nice as Agathe or Agate, but it leaves no room for error in pronunciation. I think the only one who might bring up confusion is Qifrey, which I have no idea why both fan and official translations went with a Q for a K sound other than that it looks super cool.

That scrapped cover with the astronaut was fucking sick. Shame it wasn't used.

@Sem Really? But the kana for Agathe's is literally "Agatto". It makes more sense phonetically to use a A than an O imo. If her kana were "AGotto" I could understand it but is not the case.

Olrugio doesnt roll as nicely on the tongue either but I can see why they would go with that one. The same goes for the rest of the cast, Is not nearly as jarring or random as Agathe's "Agott".

This is just my speculation, but I think it's because the o sound in Agott would still be closer in english to ア than the possible misinterpretations of a spelling like Agathe. Agathe at first glance, I might mispronounce as "aa-ga-thee". Agate isn't much better either, as the gemstone is pronounce "aa-get". Agott, compared to these two, is closer to "Ah-gah-to". Though it is still a somewhat strange pick compared to just spelling it Agatto.

Olruggio I was really upset with until I realized they were trying to get you to linger on the first syllable to try and replicate the extended u sound in his name.

I can't say I agree with all the official translations, but I understand what they were trying to go for.

@Sem Out of curiosity, turns out "Agathe" in kana really is "Agate". Maybe is just me but the more I think about it, the more it looks like the mangaka was aiming for that (for her to be named Agathe) 😂 I would love it If we got an extra were she talks about their name origins, If any.

Same, I can understand their choices on most of them except this one we were talking about just now haha

@alacaelum: Promethea was a graphic novel by Alan Moore, in which imagination made reality often featured, as well as the occult, Tarot, and Hermetic Qabalah.

P.21, so it's symbolic of the mangaka/artist struggle

Early-draft Qifrey is utterly cursed.
