Also, that's nice of the publisher that let him do that.

This. It's sad that the default expectation from a Japanese publisher would be for them to bully him in continuing to work because taking time off would mark him as a lazy,shiftless slug who doesn't honor the Japanese spirit of sacrifice by ignoring his family to keep giving to a company that doesn't care one iota about him.

If this can change, I have hope that maybe one day they'll stop normalizing "mangaka overworks themselves into the hospital" too
