I'm a little confused, the guy who dunked on Watanuki stole the black haired girl? Is that why Watanuki feels bad?
Also I thought the Doumeki here was several generations down from the main-series Doumeki, but they say it's only been 10 years, so this must be the original Doumeki then, right?

I think its the dream world like how Watanuki can visit Haruka. If not then I am confused as well

Yes, it’s in the dream world that he visits Haruka.

Also, this story is before the end of xxxHolic. There, Watanuki works frequently with Doumeki’s grandchildren, while here the story is telling us what happens before that and some years after Yuuko left.

To answer your questions in order;

1) Yes; the Furi and the Yatagarasu completely played Watanuki despite his status as shopkeeper and his abilities as a dream-seer, allowing them to take the girl from under his nose, hence Watanuki’s depression and anger.

2) This entire series takes place before those last chapters of the original manga. xxxHolic Rei originally started as a companion to the Tsubasa mini-revival back in 2013, and focused on Watanuki obtaining the items he dreamed Sayoran and the others would need during that adventure. However, it’s since continued and become its own thing. Right now in the timeline, Watanuki’s only been shopkeeper for ten years and can’t leave, Doumeki is still alive, etc. So basically, just put the last chapters of the original manga out of your mind, because they’re currently not relevant.

I know that. You can't read xxxholic rei without the main story + TRC. OP was just asking why Doumeki and Kohane appeared in the chapters because of the ending of the original manga. There has been also an OVA that is canon to the manga that they didn't put in the story.

Wow,thanks a lot! I was not aware of this OVA since I never checked the animes. Is it worth it?
