Okay this chapter was weird. I don’t know how I feel about it. Can’t really describe it. The conversations between not the mc 1 and 2 just felt so weird and awkward. A few scenarios also felt unnecessary and awkward.
Also why didn’t they open the gate when the guy that wouldn’t left? I mean it wouldn’t have been the smartest, but everyone there at the time seemed pretty onboard with the idea. Were they just going to chase the guy out for not opening it, and then also refuse to open it? I do have to agree that if that guy is a gate keeper and former adventure and getting a large check, it should be in his job description to be on the outside saving as many people as possible. It seems like any civilian could close the door. And another thing. The gate is meant to protect against monsters, why isn’t there a door or other small entrance to let in survivors and you know all the escaping civilians and workers seeking refuge. Or if not a door, a ladder. There’s literally a million billion ways to have designed that gate in a such a way that it helped save as many people as possible. Also what the hell is that gate supposed to do during a monster crisis event? I mean just this boar. If no one’s out there fighting it (again the gate keeper should have been on the outside), what’s going to stop it from busting down the gate? Isn’t it made of wood? Is it like reinforced with a skill or something. Even if the gate stops the boar, it’s supposed to stop all manner of monsters, but there is a lot of variety in that category. Anything that produces fire/heat or flies seems like a serious weakness. They don’t even have archers set up on the top of the gate or a tower or wall somewhere. Any calamity monster would eat the town in seconds. Is this an adventurer town in a fantasy world? Because they have a really bad emergency plan. It’s basically hide behind a wooden gate, have no other defenses set up, pray nothing competent comes, and pray harder that the adventures already out there deal with it and don’t die (and that’s another thing. The town can’t even make good use of its adventures, volunteers, and any other fighting force, because the gatekeepers close the gate near immediately and there is for whatever reason NO OTHER WAY to get in or out quickly. So unless everyone that wants to and can fight to protect the town is ready in seconds, they can pretty much only depend on the adventures that happen to already be outside and alerted the town to begin with). Okay. There was a lot to say about the gate. That definitely felt frustrating. Everything else was confusing, awkward, and weird to read (possibly not in that order).
