It's definitely not a break-up story. Read the mood of the manga: it's light-hearted, a little bit silly, no serious drama whatsoever. So that's how it's gonna be: Kase loses the race, tells this other chick how things really are and that's it, we move to the next arc, where Yamada and Kase start their life as a couple at a new place.

Win the race, lose the race, cancel the race. I dont care. What I want (and probably wont get) is Kase being all, "Hey guys, meet my girlfriend." To the rest of the track team. And then BAM we've solved most of the current drama. The roommate backs off, the track team finally gets over their weird protectiveness about Kase and her "dirt bag boyfriend". It'd be a big move on Kase's part for Yamada, and they can stop sneaking around hiding their relationship from the track team. Wins all around, which means it probably wont happen at all...

That's some pretty optimistic shit you got goin on there not gonna lie. Also, for a light-hearted manga it does a pretty good job making the readers fuming with anger and dissapointment. Specially this entire arc.

I too hate such "betting" in stories, but let's also not get too serious, alright?

It's the readers' problem if their expectations are not in line with what they get. I agree, the arc is plain stupid but that means nothing but some sort of a creative block on the mangaka's side.

Actually that's the authors problem. If, as a writer, you make a promise (deliberately or unknowingly) to your reader that " X is the plot and thus Y is the inevitable outcome of that plot" and you violate that promise, your reader has every right to be upset. Even tone consistency is part of the promises an author makes to their reader and a good storyteller does not betray their readers by "suddenly shifting to a different story that in no way matches the tone you started with. For example, if you start out with a dark and brooding tone, you don’t want to pivot and reveal that your novel is actually a lighthearted romantic comedy."

Oshi ga Budokan Ittekuretara Shinu is a great example of this - promised one thing (yuri) and delivered a completely different story (we can't ever be together - not even as friends). That one didn't just not deliver the story they were promising, it actively took efforts to tease the story they promised over the one they delivered.

This whole NTR arc was not what most readers were signing up for when they picked this series up. In fact, I would argue this series popularity is partly in thanks to the fact that it doesn't drown itself in unnecessary villianry, sorrow, and angst that ruin so many other potentially great yuri series.

Bottom line - if your promising your readers cute fluffy yuri romance, you keep that dark **** out.

"There's nothing like a reader scorned, and we've all seen the Amazon reviews to prove it"

i'm not a fan of this arc for many of the reasons people have stated but i also agree with the person who said it's not that kind of manga. I don't think it'll end in any bad way. kase will win the race, or not. She'll probably tell fukami either way. I'm still not 100% on whether or not they're racing for Kase to stay in the dorms, or just to tell fukami why she's moving. I don't know if i'm dumb and saw ambiguity where there wasn't any or if the TL was just more ambiguous than the source (or it's also ambiguous in jp as well). Either way, this manga is pretty light/fluffy and I don't think the mangaka will change that. If there is anything, I'm hoping it's Kase dogeza for Yamada's forgiveness and maybe growing as a character (probably not).

Ugh, why does Kase continue to spend more emotional energy with Fukami - a rando roommate that Kase's known for 1 semester or however long she's been at school (I can't even tell anymore bc this arc has been the worse and has been dragging for an indeterminable eternity) - than her supposed girlfriend. Kase is such an idiot.

I hate to do it, but I suppose I will play Devils Advocate for a bit.

Kase has more or less stated that her doing this weird race plot was to cause as little friction with the track team as possible. If she forcibly removed herself from the dorms against the teams wishes it could sour her entire athletic and college career.

So she came up with this kinda lame race idea as a way to smooth over her disagreement with the team.

But as she stated a few chapter ago, she isnt actually basing her decision to move out on the race. She's moving out regardless of the result. Winning the bet would just make it easier for her to do so and ruffle less feathers.

At least thats my interpretation. My personal gripe is still with the way she decided all of this on her own after agreeing to move in with Yamada and only informing her of the delay after the decision had already been made. Screwing Yamada over in the process. Communicate with your damn girlfriend!!!

Remember when this was a cute, simple story about a normal butch and femme couple forming and having a normal life?

As opposed to morons becoming a failure of a couple in a gag comedy…

Once she confessed she should have said “this bet is now irrelevant. It’s not ok to live with you”.

Honestly this whole arc is a mess
First of all for Kase to even accept this race is WILDLY out of character for the girl who gets incredibly bold about her girlfriend.
Second this looks to be going a "it's both of their faults" way and no, it just objectively isn't. This is entirely Kase's fault for not just saying no to the race.
Yamada going through hell because of Kase's stupid decision
And it's obvious how this is going to end, her roommate is going to win. I was really excited to see them living together but guess not.
Genuinely this arc made me dislike kase.

How about let Mikawacchi spitting facts to Kase to realize her fault if Yamada can't?
How about Mikawacchi gets sick & tired of Kase not treating Yamada right, and to show how it's done ends up sweeping the latter off her feet and "back to proper yuri" commences in the new series "Yui to Mikawacchi"? Kek.

Frankly Mikawacchi is the one spot of hope here. She is not a doormat like Yamada, so if there's somebody who can deliver a deserved verbal dressing down to Kase, it's her.

Damn, i didn't expect the yuri camp.
How could she be so spineless to let all the job of searching another apartment to Yamada, she got out of this so easy, now you have to live wherever she chooses.
