Honestly I didn't expect that she was aware. It really is missed potential this arc, we should have had so many more moments like this which showed she's self aware that's she's stuck in the past and it's constantly trying to distract herself because that would have been some level of depth to her. Still not much with Tokio though, kinda a bland character.
See, this was part of my problem. She's been pretty much one note up until the recent chapters all focusing on her, and her gimmick did get kinda tiring to me at some point, so I stopped caring about her. If the mangaka gave her at least a little bit more to bite into before it got to this point, that would have been much better instead of just dumping all of the character development here.Imagine devoting a large share of the manga - about as much as the main couple and the side couple combined by now - to a non-story about non-characters that's stuck with no progress.
This is chapter #219, o brother mine. We've had some twenty five chapters devoted exclusively to Chita and Tokio. If this is what it takes for character growth to start, how many chapters would be needed for anything of substance to actually finally fucking happen?
That is, unless I somehow missed something between all the eating she was doing back on the chapters that focused on her. It admittedly has been a while, but that's also most of what I remember her doing.
I think the problem is literally that; She took way too long for some people to care about her character development at this point. That being the point of her character doesn't automatically make it engaging for people. I'd say more, but I'd just be repeating what I said above.I honestly do not understand the amount of Chita hate over here.
Sure the arcs are longer than others, but this looks like it's still consistent and intentional, seeing how she's "the one left behind/last to develop/etc".
Again, clearly people like it, but I wish I had actual numbers on the like/dislike ratio on this whole thing, because I'm genuinely curious. I'm not going to call it bad writing since I very rarely will outright say something like that, but I can't say I'm a fan of how she was handled.
