Honestly I didn't expect that she was aware. It really is missed potential this arc, we should have had so many more moments like this which showed she's self aware that's she's stuck in the past and it's constantly trying to distract herself because that would have been some level of depth to her. Still not much with Tokio though, kinda a bland character.
Imagine devoting a large share of the manga - about as much as the main couple and the side couple combined by now - to a non-story about non-characters that's stuck with no progress.

This is chapter #219, o brother mine. We've had some twenty five chapters devoted exclusively to Chita and Tokio. If this is what it takes for character growth to start, how many chapters would be needed for anything of substance to actually finally fucking happen?
See, this was part of my problem. She's been pretty much one note up until the recent chapters all focusing on her, and her gimmick did get kinda tiring to me at some point, so I stopped caring about her. If the mangaka gave her at least a little bit more to bite into before it got to this point, that would have been much better instead of just dumping all of the character development here.

That is, unless I somehow missed something between all the eating she was doing back on the chapters that focused on her. It admittedly has been a while, but that's also most of what I remember her doing.
I honestly do not understand the amount of Chita hate over here.

Sure the arcs are longer than others, but this looks like it's still consistent and intentional, seeing how she's "the one left behind/last to develop/etc".
I think the problem is literally that; She took way too long for some people to care about her character development at this point. That being the point of her character doesn't automatically make it engaging for people. I'd say more, but I'd just be repeating what I said above.

Again, clearly people like it, but I wish I had actual numbers on the like/dislike ratio on this whole thing, because I'm genuinely curious. I'm not going to call it bad writing since I very rarely will outright say something like that, but I can't say I'm a fan of how she was handled.

I don't want her to decide its time to "grow up"
Chita's entire character arc has been around "growing up" - fighting against it, being scared of it - so I think Chita accepting that she's growing up (not deciding to) is just part of her story. Mind that doesn't mean I think she abandons who she is, just that she starts accepting who she's growing into. It's basically the self reflective version of what she says to Tokio, where acknowledging his feelings is a big part of acknowledging that he's growing up, which is probably a big part of why she's been running from 'em.

"we'll go at our pace".
Every couple in this manga is doing a flavor of "we'll go at our own pace" so I think this could work as another flavor. Mostly depends on where the author goes with this.

It's been that way since the 90's gay couples and even trans characters it's not new so
Character who reads asexual but their partner can coax them into interested is incredibly common in manga.

You think Chiita finally expressing her feelings instead of binge-eating herself into a stupor is not progress?
As long as these feelings are "well I dunno"? No it's not.

I was actually really hopeful after the last chapter this arc was going somewhere. But no, it looks we're getting twenty chapters more of "will they won't they". Just to supplement the hundred chapters of Seto being unable to decide on his future and get over his panicked aversion to touch.

Author-san, please, absolutely nobody gives a single fuck about Chita or Tokio. It would at least be engaging if they were easy to hate, but they’re so bland and uninteresting that I can’t even generate the willpower to care about them.

Also, just to address the actual content:

A new chapter just for Chita to say, “look, you’ve been following me around your whole life, so I feel bad about this, but I don’t know what love is, I just know I don’t love you, and you can’t understand how painful that is for ME.”

God damn, if bro didn’t have a broken heart before, he sure does now.

People thinking that they're gonna end up as friends or that Chii is asexual or les are forgetting that the author did exactly this for the other couples. How are you lot so fucking dense.

Author has paired them, they will make babies, this is inevitable.
Honestly yeah this is kind of my mindset as well we're just going to the drama of it all currently lol making her asexual it is very much a "yeah, I'll believe it when I see it" thing
