1. I don't think her father gave a shit about whether or not she was innocent. It says it right there (whether the manga or novel, I can't remember) that the count would prefer that she be raped and with a great reputation, over her being safe and seen "disgraced".

2. All money lenders are evil on principle because they make money on the desperation of others. Granted, this Lebeau is straight forward about his money lending, but the industry itself is evil af.

3. Is it so wrong that the MC is capable? She's been learning about things for probably far longer than three years and probably has at least limited experience in business dealings. Idk it doesn't seem too far fetched as she's never seemed as a super pushover even before the incident.

TL you son of a gun you actually released the next chapter not long after i demanded it.

it's refreshing to see a proper loan shark like that. most of them represented as murky guy who only knew to beat people up to get his money. oh, you're right there loan shark man, she's wasted on that buffoon

Gotta love how the Duke is such a shit-heel that this fat, noble-dealing, money-lender (all three of which are villain flags) turns out to be a more likable and agreeable person.
The sheer fact that he's competent and professional at what he does-a rather shady profession, really-makes him a dependable peer. He immediately takes note of how much Opal is worth too, as competent merchants tend to do.

Regarding the rest of the servants...it looks like they're genuine and are being set up to be the Duchess's long-term employees. Turns out, they aren't super friendly to her because they're hiding embezzlement. They're friendly because they want their lord back with them.

@amaranthia stupiduke hahaha omg, that was the best! I'm calling him that from now on

@mmonstra wow, number 1 is really disappointing (about her father). That's awful. I hope that by the end of this, she gets to be happy with Claude (her childhood friend) and gets away from the stupiduke, her father, and whoever else did her dirty. 😤

Oh, and about the servants/staff... they seem friendly enough? Like they care? I thought that they were nice and cute wanting to protect Opal from danger and wanting to please her... but if they're just pretending and it's all fake, then... disappointing ☹

*Money-lander and fat dude in an Isekai*
"Oh shit, he's clearly a scumbag"
Well, turn out he's not. What a refreshing concept. He's actually just a businessman looking for his legitimate money, and not even trying to blackmail the Duchess.

On another subject, I've checked the raws (there's just one more chapter before catching up BTW), and... is this a weekly release !?!
Those are so rare nowadays... but I'm glad 😁

@mmonstra I don't think it's wrong having the heroine be strong and capable. It's great. I just want to see where it comes from. The backstory we're given for her makes it questionable. Before her disgrace, she seemed to be a rather typical girl who dreams of marriage, and that three years in-between is when she had to shift gears from a future of family-rearing to living on her own two feet managing her own land.

I guess it would just help if they went into a bit more detail about those three years, instead of literally a one liner "well 3 years have passed since that incident and..."

Okay, this was awesome. And the lender saying she is wasted on the duke was the cherry on top.
Glad the author agrees to that.

DId I miss a page or something? Why is everyone praising the money lender? He allowed a loan for funds that he KNOWS the guy doesn't actually have that any idiot could figure out was obtained illegally and he has the gall to demand that the latest party being stolen from pay him to cover the shady shark loans he gave. That dude deserves to be locked up in there with the guy embezzling funds.

I don't see, why everyone fell in love with that money-lander. Sure he is reasonable, but he is dealing with aristocrat. If he wouldn't be calm and polite, he would be soon out of business. He didn't want to give those books to her, but gave up, when he noticed he'd lose out, if he didn't agree to her conditions. The remark of her being wasted on that duke-child was also rather mean, even if true.

The fact, that he lend money to somebody with gamble debts (picked his client in a casino) also doesn't speak in favor of his character.

What I see here is still an evil money-lander, but given with manners.

And as I do not possess any manners, let me say, "I WANT THE NEXT CHAPTER! NOW!!!!"

Edit: @RamenRider: Exactly

@churrystar; HARD SAME. I am seriously rooting for childhood friend. I don't see how the current Duke can be a redeemable love interest at all. I think that the staff should be fine and mostly reliable... They don't have the history and expectations towards the girl and the current duke (as a couple) like those who live in the main residence. They probably have no idea what rumors are going on either, since they're so removed from the capital and their lord.

@sirflimflam; That's fair. I think there's more in the novel, or at least something that led me to believe there was more going on? Personally though, this level of competency at her age (19) is low enough that I don't need an elaborate explanation/justification for its existence.

Loan sharks only care about money, so the way he's acting is perfect in tune with his sleazy profession. He wants his money and knows Opal is the only way he's getting it, so he has no choice but to agree to her conditions.
