She's a third year, so she's graduating soon. The vice-pres is a second year, and will be left behind. It kind of felt to me like she's trying to set up Saotome with the vice-pres (who of course, has no interest in guys - I completely got the impression in the previous couple chapters that the vice pres is actually into the pres that way).
