I'm gonna be honest, it is weirdly refreshing to be reminded that these girls are arguably the two worst delinquents in the main cast personality wise. Also, to be reminded that they are also dense, awkward and dumb when it comes to matters of feelings.
Also, a controversial take, but I do think that it's not the worst way it could have gone. Don't get me wrong, it was ultimately a shitshow and it will make the conflict messier, but I feel like it still has potential to actually help Hodaka move on. Right now, two biggest sources of his romantic problems just tried to fix their biggest mistakes and fucked up utterly. All depends on the follow through.
