Look. MC is busy sowing the seeds of getting his harem and scoring an EROFU. Mom surviving will have to wait until a more dramatically crucial moment to spring the medicine that'll save her life so she needs to hang in there and suffer for a few more cliffhangers.

I mean if she needs to chug a jar full of the powder to gain a noticeable amount of mana, maybe they still need to refine the product.

Buying yourself 5 seconds of life with a "cure" that takes 15 seconds to make and consume is one way to kill ones' hope.

I also want to say, they don't have the cure yet, they just have indications they are on the right track. The perfectly healthy kid was just barely able to stomach the various formulations Sensei tried on him. That's not the sort of thing you want to give someone who is sick.

Isn't the reason they haven't given the Mom a mana potion yet, because they don't have any?
Like, Ridd got ONE Moonlight Grass plant, and they used it all up in making the prototype.
Just getting that ONE plant was hard enough, as it's so rare that its existence is thought legendary, and now they have to acquire another one.
Chapter 4, Page 16, Sandra wasn't even sure if the plant still existed, and was surprised that Ridd was able to get one.

How the FUCK do you expect them to have gotten another Moonlight Grass plant and processed it into a mana potion already? And that's assuming that they use up the second one immediately instead of trying to plant it in order to grow more.

Wait, why has he still not given her a mana potion ?
He at least confirmed they do restore MP to a certain degree, without side effects besides the taste being bad 🥲
Yea, I'm really confused about this part too, it was my understanding that her sickness was the constant draining of mana, and as soon as she was out of mana it started draining hp.
And the powder her made should be able to give her mana back, even if it's not enough to get her out of bed, I feel like it should be able to stop her coughing up blood, so why hasn't there been any talk about her getting any yet?
Even worse now that it appears she has magical tuberculosis...

After reading this chapter, I remembered that I dropped other series for better quality than this. So, I'll see you all in another discussion because I'm dropping out.

like some of the others said we gotta be patient!! it's only been a couple of days.

i too would do anything for the milf immediately but i'm personally suspending disbelief about sandra being able to do as much as she did with presumably the one flower.

now that they know the direction they can secure more and get a steady supply going, hopefully!

and regarding what sandra did to ridd to help his mana i don't think it works as just a pure buff? besides hurting a Lot it sounded like it forced his mana to flow out? even if it didn't actually make him lose mp, if she's already got a broken system that sounds like taking a hammer to the crack in the wall.

So you are telling me that Rolan is such an amazing and ruthless business man that he controls the Empires economy. Then at the same time he is so shit at business that he has been blocked from trading with all foreign countries???

Mom needs to do 100 push ups, 100 sit ups, 100 squats and 10 km run. She should feel better after.

It kinda felt like her request in place of reparations was a waste, politically speaking. Maybe it's just the phrasing, but it sounded like she gave more of a platitude and we're expected to believe it's going to have real political ramifications. But like...just what part of her words were actionable? What exactly did the king do in response to her request?
I just feel like the logical leap is missing one extra platform.

While I'm not too bothered by him not progressing the plot to saving his mom just yet because other aspects of the process may be necessary, I do have a problem with him indulging in romcom bullshit in the same chapter we're given a scene to show urgency.

It's a matter of narrative skill, I think. We should've either been presented with that scene at the end of last chapter for the implication that they're still racing against the clock to perfect the mana potion and cure....or we should cut the frankly weird flirting in this chapter to focus more on business talk.
It seems pretty clear to me that groundwork for Christy being a harem member is being laid out, but...I kinda just don't care.

Setting aside the fact that I'm not a fan of harems in general and an long-lived elf race is drawn to a child age SIX, I can't buy the attraction. He's being framed as a ditzy dense boy while she's at the same time competent and fragile of heart.
It's possible for a lady to be portrayed as those things, but in her case it comes across more as an awkward mesh; she's fragile when we need the MC's "kindness" to win her heart and she's competent when we need to glaze her as an attractive harem member.

It would probably have worked better for me personally if Christy's introduction had her look less put together. Perhaps give us a perspective of her frustrations doing business in town up until then.

The way all the plot is moving is like a game quests which only moves forward when the MC makes a relevant action to towards the quest.
I mean there is the increasing the "affection" with family members, the merchant quest (this chapter), the foreign princess who is supposed to be coming soon, and his mother's mana deficiency illness, but only one (or 1 1/2) of the topic (quest) ever move forward at any given chapter.

Storytelling wise it makes sense (it is also easier that way), but I kind of wish it isn't so jarring as we move from topic to topic.
Because I've read the novel I can say a little it feels like this because it's skipping a fair amount but nothing important as the novel is incredibly detailed and slow him creating the manga measurement spell happened over the course of 2-3 chapters going into detail

The manga skipped a bunch of this but Count Rolan is actually a really big deal in merchant circles. He has driven nearly every foreign trading company out of the Empire and achieved a near total stranglehold. He is so good at not leaving trails that none of the nobles and even the Emperor have anything to use against him. He is extremely unpopular but nothing can be done about it because to do any trade now, you have to go through him or his cronies.

Then suddenly he insults Chris, a foreign noble. If handled poorly this could become an international issue and embarrassment. Chris lumps all the imperial nobles with Count Rolan in one basket claiming that what he does is a reflection of them as fellow nobles. Then she added that a subordinate's mistakes are their leader's mistakes, forcing the Emperor to bow in apology. This shocks everyone, especially since Rolan didn't bow until after the Emperor started talking about how this is the first time he's had to bow since ascending the throne. As a result, the Emperor wants to thoroughly thank Rolan for such an experience.

In the aftermath, Rolan loses much of the influence he held and now his little cartel is slowly being weeded out. This outcome was far more preferable than a one time reparation.

It's not a harem story despite the tag. MC marries and loves only one person. The manga cut Emma pointing out that Chris overreacted to a child entering her room. This isn't normally considered a serious impropriety. This forces Chris to realize that this whole time she has seen Rid as a man, not a child. The purpose of the exchange is to reinforce the incongruity. Physically he is a child but he carries himself in such a way that multiple cast members have said it feels like talking to an adult, an adult masquerading as a child. On the other hand, MC considers himself to be a 6 year old child, just with memories of his past life. That is why he is legitimately confused by Meredy and Chris's perceived overreaction to what he considered a little prank.

Oooh, some much appreciated additional context and detail here. I guess you can't help what's lost in adaptation sometimes, but that does change the vibe a whole lot. I feel like you could dedicate a whole chapter to all that.

It's also heartening to hear that there won't be any harem stuff.

It's actually disappointing they cut this much out because the Emperor and nobility had been urgently waiting for any excuse they could use to curtail his power. The Emperor was trembling with giddiness when bowing (which was misinterpreted as trembling with rage) and the majority of the nobles were also struggling to contain their laughter. The so-called "Count Rolan Incident" is referenced multiple times later on and he kind of becomes the nobles' punching bag so it's kind of weird the manga decided to diminish it like this. In the end, he reaped what he sowed.

Noble: The Baldia Territory should XYZ for the good of the Empire!

Rolan: Yes! I completely agree!

Noble: Shut up, Rolan! Who asked you?!

As MC's influence grows, he gets more and more offers to connect with other noble ladies and encouraged to take concubines. He turns all of it down and declares that he will only ever love his one wife.

The comment right below you disproves your point completely.
I already had an inkling, but what people say is "nothing important" is normally called world building, and it can definitely change vibes and characterization with context.

In this case we went from Chris doing a good political move that serves as catalyst to feel a monopoly to her making a noble's problem, every noble's problem, like she's helping him save face to get out of his crosshairs, and from making a point about how the MC carries himself as an adult so much that people forget he's 6, to Chris looking really sus, just because of a little context.
It's the reason I can rarely read a manga after reading a novel.

Yeah, if that's what you interpreted Chris's motivations to be, then the manga fucked up really bad. It was her revenge against Rolan by painting a giant target on him. If she was trying to get in his good graces, she wouldn't have enacted an eternal ban on him and his descendants. Nor would she have filled in the power vacuum his dismantled ring left behind.

Also, Chris actually is kind of sus. Once she realizes what her feelings really mean, Emma points out she can just wait another decade if she actually feels bad about it. After all, that much time is nothing for an elf. Then she gets blindsided by the marriage to Princess Fara Renalute when she goes to apologize for her outburst.
