Why do people love this dumb trope so much, but execute it terribly every time? He didn't notice the date was wrong by more than a decade? He said the manga volume he bought was old, but it's apparently 22 years old and he didn't realize that? You want the MC to have an existential crisis? Show us someone completely different living there like he never existed at all, or show us the MMORPG nolifer is still doing what he always did and our MC doesn't have a life to go back to.

She was probably experiencing the same feeling an older person may feel when they revisit a town or city they haven't been to in over a decade. Buildings not in the right places, the technology isn't how you remember it, etc. It's that uncanny feeling you get when visiting a familiar place at an unfamiliar time.

It'd be impossible to not notice if you were thinking it might happen. Its absolutely possible to not notice when you aren't expecting it. Unless you weren't paying attention yourself, which would also prove the point, you must have seen plenty of people not notice something you or someone else thought was extremely obvious.
