This arc was horrible, but author fixed it a little bit at least for me in the end, also good thing that they both will not return, I hope other annoying cookie cutter characters that comes with kiku will be just swipe under that rag and forgotten. And I pray to god that next arc will not be love triangle with that new vampire guy.

Didn't Kiku LITERALLY say in the previous chapter that sunlight will NOT kill a vampire? And if it was that what was this whole convoluted pursuit of suicide bs?

She said that it wouldn't cause problems for him "right away".

The author's seemingly vague on whether sunlight actually kills vampires. They hide from it, and they talk about it "sucking", but every time a vampire's actually died in sunlight so far, it's always been in conjunction with being forced to hold their previous life's "treasure".

Ok, I know its some ā€œseriousā€ story about some supposedly ā€œseriousā€ issues. Some real ā€œseriousā€ story telling and ā€œseriousā€ topics. Oscar stuff. But its unneeded in this upbeat and laid back manga about our MC x FMC relationship. Feels out of place. Wth author is going to do with the story after that? Thats why I also didnā€™t get Gintama with itā€™s roller coaster story telling

Where do we go from here? Does the story shift from Kou's best friend dying, back to his romance with Nazuna?

Her toxic ideology made toxic situations worse. Now the real characters can move on to making the world a better place. Rip Kou though, if only he had accepted the help and love from the other people that really cared about him.

Why did Kiku die then, because she sucked the blood of someone she loved? And second up, why did mahiro die? If it was because Kiku was his something special from his previous life, then it wasn't even needed for him to have known her as a child. She became important for him as an adult make too. So if that's supposed to be the twist, as it's been speculated in this thread, it's a pretty convoluted one...

Well, going against the comments from those who thought this arc was a waste, I enjoyed it. It had some weak bits, but I thought the result was fitting and kind of beautiful. Doesn't make the two central characters the best people, or terribly empathetic, but how is that a requirement for quality?

This arc was great y'all just have some awfull takes
A lot of readers were just here for the slice of life, didn't care nor have the emotional intelligence to absorb the heavier social commentary.

And why they thought it was out of the blue is also due to the same reasons. I mean, this whole manga's premise from the very beginning was a boy, only 14, tired of life, staying out the whole night, almost no interaction with family or friends, and at least initially wanting to become a vampire as an easy exit. I mean come on.

What are you talking about? This storyline sucked because it was setting up Kiku as the arc villain(if not the main antagonist of the series) for like 50+ chapters, only to keep chipping away at that aspect of her character each week until we wind up with this mess of a character who lived ruining tons of folks' lives just so she could die? Even though she could have just walked out into the Sun at any time, I guess? Meanwhile Mahiru felt like he had absolutely no agency, waffling between stupid goals(bullshit rivalry with Kou), and goals that never seemed like they belonged to him? Exasperated even further this chapter by revealing that he was at least partially led/groomed down this path as a child by Kiku? And then they both just peace out, lol.

And people are here slurping it up saying it's high art when it definitely feels like the mangaka just lost focus around the time all the characters went on this trip and just tried to throw some kind of ending together. Glad this is over, but like Thoshy said, where the fuck do we even go from here?
