Thank you for the chapter! I prefer Toriella, but not really by much. If it stays as Triella, I won't exactly be sad either.
In short, it's not a grafted soul, but a reborn soul. Ren always has been and always was Ren.Thank you for sticking with this series, TL. I love how funny and dirty this series is.
I also really like this flashback scene where the reader finds out Ren has essentially always been Ren. In many reincarnation-type stories, the MC goes through a trigger event (fever, head bonk, etc) that brings their memory back. Afterwards, the MC's personality changes as they recall their past life: the villainess stops being a jerk, the lazy good-for-nothing starts being productive, the angry and bitter orphan calms down and learns delayed gratification, etc. In these stories, memory heavily modifies personality.
For Ren, we find out she has always been kind and loving towards her friends, detail-oriented, and sharp-tongued towards those who cross her; ie, Ren has not really changed. In this series (for Ren at least), memory and personality are essentially 2 separate dimensions of Ren. If anything, her memories strengthens her existing personality.
I agree in that I like the concept of memory not being tied to personality. In another timeline where Ren’s former life memories weren’t returned to her, I could honestly see the plot turn out relatively the same (except without delicious Nippon food and focus on masturbation). For Ren, we find out she has always been kind and loving towards her friends, detail-oriented, and sharp-tongued towards those who cross her; ie, Ren has not really changed. I think part of the issue is all their income is coming from herbs not combat, and given the lack of training, they should really all be running away from combat anyway.I get that most of the boys are idiots, but prioritizing buying better equipment sounded a lot better than a more expensive place to rent. The sword he was using was broken in half, and they just got extra money this one time. It hasn't been established they could keep that up sustainably yet. And don't their lives and income depend on the equipment?
Although I totally agree with a study group.
edit: As for the name it should be clear with the original text. Just go with whatever is closest to the literal romanji.
There are some implications that that her memories were always there, affecting her even when she couldn't clearly remember them, though it doesn't come through as clearly in the manga and some of it is later on anyway. In this chapter though it mentions the way she talked, it's more specific in the web novel but even as a young child she talked in a polite way reserved for adults. Literally a young girl, at the age when most kids are still having trouble speaking at all, speaking in a very clear and reserved fashion, like a japanese businessman. IIRC she only slightly changes how she speaks for Rico, and only speaks in an informal way to Kuro. So I would expect she would come up with japanese food by attempting something and being unconsciously guided by her memories anyway. The focus on masturbation I could see going either way in such a timeline.I agree in that I like the concept of memory not being tied to personality. You know that happened last chapter right?Let me guess, the mischievous little girl will find out in no time that Ren is alive while she is teaching Triela something (probably reading and writing, possibly magic or even eating Ren's food) and ends up joining whatever they were doing.
Anyone with me?
Could have been Ren doing it subconsciously. What kind of person named the black haired catperson Kuro? If it wasn’t Ren it must have been some other isekai’ed person som Japan.
Yeah, if the system just unlocked for Ren, I could see her stumbling through things. She definitely wouldn't have preconceptions for things and would not be able to prioritize her specs as much as she has with her other memories, though.I agree in that I like the concept of memory not being tied to personality. More likely because she's an orphan she was just given a nickname by the kids for her black hair, and it stuck.Could have been Ren doing it subconsciously.
But if we have one Isekai protag, who is to say there wasent one 200 years ago that changed the naming convention for the whole nation just from sheer awesomeness.
Words only have meaning if you want it too, so for all we know Kuro might be a perfectly normal first person name.
While i agree with you, the fact they connect "black haired cat girl" with "Kuro" is the main point.Yeah, if the system just unlocked for Ren, I could see her stumbling through things.
