So my guess is

Junior when he was younger wanted to explore his options and work for differents companies. Due to how strong he was the higher up wanted him dead so they would never have to deal with him as an ennemi in the futur and assigned Yotaka to kill him.
But she didnt want to, and instead took his eye so he would "never be stronger" so she would always be able to womanhandle him, so no need to kill him.

Looking kinda milfy this chapter.

Also Junior apparently a lot stronger than I thought he was. Figured he was just her assistant back then.

It actually would be a nice parallel to the first chapter where Junior's boss told him to kill Yotaka if she wasn't on board with coming out of retirement. I think if you take into account that they knew each other for some time prior to her taking his eye (not to mention the possibility that she may have trained him), then her taking his eye was an at of mercy.

Perhaps she lied to whoever told her to test/kill Junior and took his eye as a sort of "he was competent but he lost his eye, he's not stronger than me but still has value" assuming Kanetsuna was lying to Todoroki and made it seem like Yotaka took his eye out of jealousy rather than him explicitly telling her to kill Junior herself, or that he used this "kill if they don't want to work for us" routine a lot.

Either way Kanetsuna has death flags planted on him.

For such a girlfailure slob manga, it has a lot of other things going for it. It does feel like there's more to that flashback. If not, it just makes Nighthawk look like a cold, petty bitch loser which kinda fits? Such a jarring difference. From the numerous flashbacks, you would have thought Junior was just her handler and not someone at the top with her.

Unless that one poster who theorize Junior is just as obsessed with Nighthawk as Snake is. Just one of them has it on full display and the other keeps it bottled. It is kinda crazy how well he treats her when she's the one who took out his eye. lol

So Junior losing his eye wasn't due to some grand battle or moment of misjudgment it's just because Yotaka was jelous as fuck.

That being said it seems she was harboring some sort of hostility towards him for a while seeing as how Junior still had his eye during their first encounter with Snake where he was coincidentally holding a bag of ice cream, my guess is that she took his eye right after this encounter.

Didn't really expect Yotaka to have actually done it on purpose but the way she sees it she looks back at those ice cream binges fondly, so I wonder if Kanetsuna was lying or giving his own interpretation of events to Todororoki.

I swear this series reels you in with the promise of a hot lady but keeps you invested with these characters who actually have depth behind them. Be it as may I still want these two to end up together because look at them (lots of cute Yotaka moments in this chapter and that's always a plus).

If this series goes the serious / seinen route, then Junior will probably end up killing her by the end of the story.

That's my main gripe. Like the pissing duo said, "if someone did that to me". She quite literally ruined his life / career with no prior hostility. She just did it out of nowhere because he was carrying the bag of ice cream like he always did. It makes absolutely no sense for him to being this buddy buddy with her. This goes for the Hawk as well. How sociopathic are you to treat the man you fucked over like you are childhood friends? There gotta be some proper explanation as to why she did what she did and why he is seemingly fine with it. And jealousy / pettyness is not it unless author wants the readers to dislike her instead.

I like this take because I wasn't convinced by Kanetsuna's judgement about what happened between Jr and Yotaka. Even if she's notorious for surgical killings, I haven't read her as petty enough to eliminate someone just because they might surpass her in strength. Considering how carelessly she operates while being hunted by industry professionals out of unbridled self-belief that nobody can defeat her, I doubt she genuinely feared Jr would exceed her abilities either.

Chapter 1 also establishes that Yotaka quit the organization because she hated the job. Combined with her robotic demeanor as a killer, I get the impression that ranks and hierarchy held little interest for her. Judging by her current lifestyle she simply worked as a hitman to survive because it was what she did best. So it would make sense that their organisation put a hit on Jr and Yotaka took his eye to quell the "Mad Dog."

Thanks for the chapter!

you are taking the boss' statement as fact when it's just his TAKE on the facts. All we know is she took his eye, and that they were close before and after the incident. Them's the only facts so far, the rest is speculation.

It honestly would make sense if Kanetsuna was just giving his own theory on what happened since we know only Junior was close to Yotaka so only he would know why she did him like that whereas Kanetsuna was either indifferent or just didn't care

Hey, she's all cleaned up this chapter.

Well, by taking his eye, she clearly wanted him disabled enough to no longer be a hitman. That could be because she didn't want him to follow in her footsteps, or because she figured that a rival could not remain a friend. Also, she may have been considering retirement already and she may have been thinking that if he remained a hitman, while she retired, he might be sent after her to cut off loose ends if the boss thought he had a shot at taking her out.

Still, she made that choice for him, but we all know that she's not exactly the most virtuous person around.

I don't know how to feel about this. This could just be the handlers read on things, but I also hope that isn't the case otherwise she's a real asshole. If it is real, working together is fine just don't put them together romantically.

After hearing everyone else's thoughts I think Yotaka wasn't doing it out of malice as Kanetsuna may suggest, but rather doing it either to keep him away from assassin work as Kireato said or purposefully maimed him so that no one would see him as a threat as truth_truth put it.

Personally I can see these working, Yotaka as we know her doesn't look like the type to fuck up someone she cares about like that unless she had a good reason to and I think trying to spare Junior from being killed due to someone else's orders or as a sign to tell him not to get involved in this type of work would probably fit her character. She was probably already being worked to death and was getting exhausted and might not have wanted Junior to go through the same fate (which worked since it was stated he was off the field for a while) even if it meant she had to do something that might've ruined their relationship. Perhaps that's why she says any possibility of romance between them has sailed cause why wouldn't it after that?

But based on this panel we can see bodies behind her so there is a chance she might've thought Junior was an enemy trying to sneak up on her, remember she was close to killing Snake before he showed up and snapped her out of it with ice cream, he was also carrying a bag of ice cream here. So it could also be because she was too locked in to realize what she was doing, and I think this is my go-to theory for why she did it.

Either way it is still pretty fucked up what she did so I like that the author is showing her in another light which gives her more nuance.
