I have never seen a native give such a detailed description of an isekai's clothes before in all my years of reading the gene!

I mean, while it's actually really cool for an author to point out how people in less advanced cultures would find our modern clothes astonishing, I don't think it's cool enough to spend 10 pages on it. The author has his heart in the right place with imagining a more "realistic" fantasy world and creating chthonic feeling characters, but he needs some experience in pacing and character writing.

I will be looking forward to what he puts out in the future. This is a solid 8/10. If the Redo of Healer author can go from making a 4/10 in his first work to an 8.5/10 in his second work, this guy has a bright future.

it's more like a problem like when an author is forced to make chapters longer, it happens a lot, everyone hates that but sometimes there is no other choice if there is not enough time for the author to find a better way to make a chapter longer.

idk, chapter 1 is required to be the hook to get people into it. This kinda feels like it should be a volume extra chapter 0 or something; it is the start of the story, but should be delivered when the people are already going to be getting the actual content of what the story should supposedly be about, cooking.

I guess? Just narratively, it makes no sense as a chapter 2 because it kills any momentum chapter 1 was building.

It can work. Bouken ni wa is heavy on worldbuilding, but still manages to be interesting by focusing on telling stories with strong characters first and foremost.

I don't mind worldbuilding one bit. One Punch Man, Frieren, and Dungeon Meshi are my #1, 2, and 3 manga of all time and aside from OPM, they all thrive on worldbuilding. There's a bit of a difference, though. Laios will go into autistic detail about how to kill and cook a goblin over the course of 3 or so highly detailed pages. This manga stretches it out over a large handful of pages with few illustrations to break up the monotony.

This author has a lot of interesting ideas but he needs to work on how he conveys them. Over time as he hones his talent I have no doubt he can actually produce some top grade stuff if his first work is an unpolished gem like this.

I dont like this chapter. Ive basically grow a distrust in manga's historical knowledge or at least hasnt perfected how fantasy people would react to things.

Like the way Gungrave praise the clothing is not great. Like it feels like more than 50% of the praise was baseless assumptions. Why would you straight up think "Its so far beyond our imagination that it goes straight above what we can conceive". Thats so over the top. I dont doubt the difference in quality would be easily discernable. But at most, Gungrave should only go "Where the hell this kid come from? His clothes looks to be of such extraordinary quality... How did he get such a treasure?" without going into weird baseless assumption on futuristic technology. Also, the technology character would have a better position to speak such praise instead of Gungrave. Also, i think the shoe would have been the better focus for praises more than the shirt and even the jeans.

I've come to expect that, on a long enough timeline, any isekai manga that isn't super serious will have at least one chapter devoted to cooking. It's not legally mandated like having an onsen or beach chapter, but it's still pretty common. This manga is so intensely devoted to the cooking genre that it spends the same excessively long, intensely detailed, almost pornographic interest in, of all things, the MC's jeans and t-shirt. It's like it started to loop back around into something other than food-focused.

If the MC is twenty, and older than the eight leaders of this mercenary band, and they've been doing this for eight years, that means that they started being mercenaries when they were no older than eleven years old. That's not even counting the time that these preteens would have been in a gang. No wonder that things aren't going so well for them, what with not thinking things through and all; they're all teenagers.
