So even if you sleep with the director, you apparently still get ostracized. Then why do it in the first place? Desperation i imagine? It still rubs me in the worst ways.

the thing is that she was unlucky that the anime the director got for her did not blow up like magical girl one, if she have accepted to sleep with the guy the first time she would have made it.

as a teacher for a few years and as someone still giving out career advice these days, I can relate so much with him. it's nice to have dreams or passion or all that lofty stuff, you can't go far without them anyway. but be realistic and know the risks and uncertainty involved with your options.

Why are you going after the women and not the men who pressure them into sex?
There are no victims in this. Both parties consent to what they are doing regardless of how unethical it is since both trying to get something out of it. She was looking for an advantage over others. If the game is rigged, you always have the option of not playing it.

Funny thing is, if she slept with the director first time around, she would actually get what she wanted and noone would try to portray her as a victim. Just because she failed, that doesn't change the fact that she exchanged her body for favors and rightfully labeled as "sleeping her way up" by others.

It's a complicated situation tbh.

On one hand, yes, she had the option to not sleep with a director in exchange for a favor.

On another hand, a higher-up using his influence to sleep with subordinates in exchange for favors is a pretty immoral act.

But at the end of the day, she had a choice to sleep or to not sleep with the guy. It's not like she was r*ped. She made a choice and it turned out to be a terrible choice because not only has she given her first time to an old fuck who she probably despises, she also got nothing good out of it.

I still pity her. It's a shitty situation to be in. She sees her dream as more important than losing her virginity to someone she loves, but reality doesn't care: she gave her virginity away for pretty much nothing. Her dream remains unfulfilled, and now she sees herself as "tainted" because she lost her virginity to that gross guy.

Being offered sex in a work context is sexual harrassment. Being withheld from a job opportunity for not having sex with someone is discrimination.
I'v never said it is ethical or moral. It is what it is. Nothing was done without consent as we've seen the first time around. She've seen where things were going and bailed. She was very aware (teacher said it. Her friend as well) and she did it anyway. She always had the option to walk away. This shit is almost a staple in entertainment industry all over the world at this point. As I've said, you always have the option of not to partake with this exchange. She tried and she failed. That's all there is to it.

If the setting was different (like any other regular days job) my stance would be entirely different. Like a promotion or management job being withheld because she refused to sleep with the CEO.

In entertainment where 1 in a maybe 10000 at best find success, everything you do to get an advantage over your peers is on you since what she did wasn't entirely moral either. We are discussing this puting her in victim chair only because she failed. If she was succesful after sleeping with the director, it most certainly wouldn't be due to her talent considering she is nothing special. In entertainment, hard work barely matters more than connections and raw talent.

Reminds me of the loan shark manga. Anyone remember the name? Anyway, I highly recommend that one, as it does a good job with the character development.

There’s a few, but I’m assuming you’re talking about Yamikin Ushijima-kun

Looking back on this while it would be a sleazy way to get ahead, assuming that someone was higher ranking and not middle management taking advantage of someone naive, be better if people demand something in writing or a video recording of them saying that they'd guarantee giving a job in exchange for sexual favors, if only to black mail them with later lol. Tho even if you didn't go 'viral' plenty of online VAs make a living without going into a studio/getting a mainstream role, so i wouldn't be surprised if there was a japanese side of that community with indie animators hiring them as well ol

i just read blood on the tracks before this and this manga almost feels just as sad,
but its true dreams are often things that are not realistic and out of your reach, more than often when you are pursuing your dreams you miss out on opportunities
i am not saying to not pursue your dreams but to be extremely cautious with it
