No, no it's not. Her daugther literally asks to keep her thoughts about leaving the village and going to the royal capital a secret and the shit mum cannot wait to loudly proclaim that secret. That's really shitty behaviour. ...
Look, I understand it is kinda dumb, especially as how
@duckstapha points out, you shouldn't tell secrets to little kids since you should know better that them of all people cannot keep secrets.
But I do think you're much too harsh in judging the mum, especially as A. - often times people are dumb (or she thought it wasn't a huge deal, which relates to B. - She is literally a little girl, for any observer, she may act weird but she's a little kid. Should you keep relatively harmless secrets about kids? Probably yes, but she's still a little girl. We're not talking about fully grown adults (yes I know she kinda is, but the adults don't know that) and their adult-based value systems but a value system based on a parent-child relationship where the child is a little kid.
Look, it's still dumb, but you have to acknowledge that you cannot judge them based on adult relationships.
@duckstapha
I think how I see it is that she’s way too willing to share it with others. Even if Laura is a child that needs protection, there is no need to just specifically, and confidently say that the MC is leaving in “x” years to her best friend. She should consider that Laura might have been deciding how to tell her best friend. I’d understand if she told Luka about her alchemy passion and asked him to keep protecting her, but her statement about Laura leaving wasn’t needed. ...
Yeah, I'll admit I do think it's dumb, and I think you spell out my big issues with the event really coherently regarding how the author wrote this plot point.
... It could cause some problems between them, so it seems weird to me. Her parents should at least be careful about what to say if the subject is sensitive. Especially when they’re children, the mom should know that they are young and that they may not know how to handle these types of situations.
Yes I agree, especially as you put it so well in the last paragraph, however to play devil's avocado 😈🥑, I do want to clarify:
Most people are dumb, most parents have flaws, and often overlook seemingly important things to their child. This is furthered by parents sometimes focusing on their priorities about their children (well-being, friendships, life-lessons) rather than their children's priorities (food, toys, flowers or sharks or trucks etc., getting hugs etc.).
Also sometimes parents talk about their kids and their kids secrets or lives to each other, this happens all the time irl, I'm not saying it's a good thing, but saying it exists.
Sorry for the lack of conciseness, but in summary yes I think it's dumb, especially for points I think you put really well. And I acknowledge that I am definitely leaning towards this being pretty stupid and unlikely, but I initially wrote my comment because people are really going over the top with why the mum is a big stupid. Honestly, dumb move on the mum part, a dumb move on the author part (yes it seems like a pretty cheap way to progress the plot), but I don't think the mum is an irredeemable piece of shit nor the author doing a
really huge ass-pull here.
Parents leak child secrets all the time
I’ll also just add, this might also be a translation issue as well.
Yeah maybe some nuance is missed as well, idk.
