He does point out that it's not technically support magic, but a form of control magic. Rather than a support mage, he seems to be some sort of mind controller, or dominator, but he typically limits himself to just sending out buffs. So, your typical support mage wouldn't have access to this type of magic.

Honestly, if he really is a dominator type of mage, then I can understand why he's so powerful.

Because DPS "players" are stupid and get used to the buffs/healing, leading them to think that "they're that strong/good on their own" and the support isn't needed, the support is just taking up valuable space that could be filled with another DPS
