No, there's nothing logical about how he's thinking. The very first page of his internal monologue has him acknowledge that his skill has a chance to backfire and kill him, and a few pages later he acknowledges that pushing the skill further has a chance of making him black out, but rationalizes it and goes for it anyway. And then goes "HERE IT COMES HERE IT COMES HERE IT COMES" in his head when he does it anyway.
