it’s still unclear how tainted a soul can get before they’re cast out but this dude tried to force everyone into a suicide pact. He full on tried to kill his own children. Even if the old gods would judge the kids for abandoning him, there’s no way Mc would. Definitely hope we see them again soon. Maybe ma will adopt them and they’ll be the cowards siblings. Heck, trying to be a good older brother might be just what he needs to grow a spineI just hope the kids won't get tainted. Poor souls had to see their mother darkness first and then the fall of their father, who also tried to drag them down with him....
Gascoigne. Sorry I was dozing off at work"Castle"?
Ah, but here's the potential for tragedy you're missing. Alex also had mostly pure soul, but the taint stewed in paradise until he got corrupted. Who can say that children won't start going down the wrong path after seeing both of their parents taken away from them?Even if the old gods would judge the kids for abandoning him, there’s no way Mc would.
My biggest problem is that a man like that wouldn't have been pure-souled like Raoul is claiming, if just this was enough to turn his soul as black as it became. Like, we saw people that murdered others for the fun of it with souls less black than he had. While both parents sucked, at least the wife owned up to her crime. Alex is too weak to even acknowledge any fault, it's always someone else: It was his wife that killed his father, it was Raoul who forced him into paradise, it was his children who made him raise them, it was the other folks who couldn't give him sympathy. Alex was a spineless parasite who feeds off other people's pity.
No. He was the breadwinner of the family, but didn't bring in much. It says it clearly in the flashback in-chapter.Damn ALex is a piece of work.. used everyone as a scapegoat. even his own kids.
and is it just me or did he also push all of the work on his late wife to handle his sick father so he could be lazy?
yes she did commit murder... but she shouldn't be in hell forever. hmm.. i am not sure. 😓

He probably got judged before his wife so it was pure, but the moment he heard the truth it became tainted. Raoul likely already knew this, but chose not to reevaluate him for the sake of his kids (and probably because he knew it'd get worse and he'd get to have some fun with him)It's really not clear what level of taint is deemed ok by Raoul, the actions of that guy towards his wife, even if subconscious should probably have generated at least some taint, no?
This would make him no better than the old gods. Seems to me that he really does want them to stay pure, even under the near-constant threat of exile. In fact I feel like Raul is playing with the few humans who still have a pure soul, pretending to save them and take care of them, when in fact he is having fun corrupting them to then have a reason to punish them
