...Liam took notice,he must've noticed some trainees who,just like himself,seemed better without the assist system,and keeps them in mind for their future potential.

Very good chance none of those new mechs have any assists,and she will be the one to lead them into being a crack unit directly under Liams' command,if not assigned to one.

Assist is made to make it easier for new/inexperience soldier using mobile knight. While for more experienced knight would rather have their unit without any assist that might limit their movement.
Just like how GT3 and high performance road car has traction and stability control while LMP-1 and F1 car has their traction control disabled.
