Excluding anything really crazy happening, it seems to me that Zenjirou would have already stopped smiling if there was a real danger of that. He might not like to be involved in the politics, but he did marry a monarch, so he knew it was going to happen. As long as he feels his actions help his family, he can do it. Perhaps he's just dismayed by the endless depth of politics.

This is a refreshing take on the "harem" issue. It's kinda embarrassing that people seem to think all men are horn dogs that would readily change their culture and way of thinking on romantic relations. Centuries away love was seen as a obstacle in relations. Marriages were done out of politics and power. Things are different now. A lot of people (it isn't wrong to call it the prevailing popular opinion) believe in monogamy and relationships based on love. Here we have a character that is more than happy to continue his monogamous relationship with the woman he loves, but is understandably uncomfortable having to take concubines for political reasons. He's neither wishy washy nor an insane pervert; he's just a person who grew up with certain ideals on relationships and is very clear on them.

Honestly, I am surprised the slow.... corruption? for a lack of a better word of Zenjiro as a focal point of the story is interesting. I wish they would have dropped the isekai plot altogether and would interleave the story with something that isn't politics every now and then, but i can't complain about the outcome. I am fully invested

While this is true you have to remember the medium your reading this story from, it’s a Isekai manga where every other story in the genre is a harem with the MC taking multiple other wives happily with no conflict at all. The reason this story is a breath a fresh air is because it goes against the grain but it makes sense people are confused or hesitant to accept it.

I don’t think it’s a “Men are all horndogs” but more “the men who read these stories are used to a more basic take on this issue”

Wrong, Bona is 100 times better.
Zenjiro just needs to make the same offer Aura made to him.
If Bona marries Zen, she can simply spend her days relaxing in leasure while doing all the research she wants, bet she would jump on that in an instant.

Someone please spoil me on whether the little girl actually becomes a concubine, I'm really praying she doesn't.

As of the most recent novel released in English,
Freya is still the only concubine, and they’ve gotten officially married. No official decision has been made on the Twin Kingdoms concubine but it still looks like it will be Lucy unless something changes.

The next novel releases in English in a couple of weeks and then we’ll be caught up to the Japanese release and who knows when another novel will come out.

Ehh, the 'isekai' plot is necessary, how else would a Japanese salaryman end up in a world of swords and sorcery?

I genuinely appreciate the setup to this story: the MC isn't reincarnated (yet magically remembers everything from his old life), he travels to another world with fundamentally different rules as an adult; and most importantly, he doesn't get to go there because of some benevolent kami or blind luck, he gets to go there and ends up with major powers because he's the descendant of royals who left there. The most logical isekai setup yet.

Is the novel available in English? If so, where? Thanks!

Final line seems a bit weird. If zenjirou's smile changes, as a queen Aura will accept because emotions aren't relevant in politics, and he is way too central to all her diplomacy with both uppasala and the twin kingdoms to possibly replace.
As a woman is another matter though, and seems to be a much more relevant concern.

Lucrezia is confirmed to be his next concubine, although they have not officially married yet. It's possible something major could happen and that could change but basically they are engaged. She gets some advice from Freya that if she wants to marry Zenjirou, she shouldn't go after him, but to go after Aura.

She is seen as problematic by Zenjirou as a concubine because she has no desires for the relationship itself, and is fine with anything and promises to behave herself. Zenjirou sees this as a problem because its hard to find a way to make her happy and discusses this with Freya and Aura who find this ideal, before they point out that he's exactly the same type of problematic as her in their eyes.
