This is going to kill the site
Who's going to want to keep scanlating a series that had a huge takedown associated with it
It also makes things so uncertain that any series you work on won't get the same fucking treatment
What a bunch of fucking bastards.
Most who wants to continue are just going to upload to batoto or whatever instead.
Though I guess people are most likely going to drop it, especially for the licensed series. There's really no point working on licensed series to begin with, and just a few years ago the general rule was dropping a manga when it got licensed.
But the community has changed and now more groups are doing it for money obviously and clout.

There are some things i would like to know from MD staff:

when did you receive this DMCA ?
who exactly sent this DMCA / on whoms behalf?
will you give us a list of the titles that were affected ?

i did not link my account and used a different Alias on NC but i support MD financially because i believed in its cause. I am afraid i have to re-evaluate this as well since basically everything i was reading or planned to read here is gone.
If you check the titles, it's several publishers. All the big publishers have gotten their several of their manga removed. It's pretty similar to when batoto went down.

So of the series that got hit, did this remove any of them outright from the site? Not just the chapters, but like the series itself is just not listed at all anymore? I ask because it's been an unfortunately long time since I checked my list and I don't remember enough to know if I'm missing any series.
No the title entries are not removed, only the chapters. Not all chapters are removed yet from the title pages, but they're going to be after a while, and most likely you won't be able to upload any more chapters of that series anymore if I had to guess. They already did this to several series like one punch man.

I don't know what to say. On the one hand, MD devs finally introduced this essential basic feature that is tag filtering. On the other hand, DMCA nonsensical shit which WILL turn this beautiful website into a disgusting barren wasteland. I suppose this place has reached its "expiration date".
I don't think it matters that much, you'll still probably be able to make scanlations of most of the series there's a point of making scanlations of. Most of the series that were hit were licensed, and my suspicion that the ones that weren't licensed are probably going to be licensed in the future. Though only one of the series I had worked on got hit, and it's a four year old series that got axed at three volumes that's not licensed, which obviously is kind of weird.

Square Enix and Kodansha and these other idiots refuse to understand that I’d rather pay a $5 sub to get 100 chapters a day like I do on Shonen Jump/Manga Up, than to pay for some needlessly confusing and overpriced key system that will probably only let me pay through iOS.

So, it is a service issue actually.
They're losing money. It's probably not viable to have it so cheap in the long run.

Let's hope so, I searched for the official release of School Back, the first link on google is mangadex. :kek:

the dmca takedown. black cat scnalation is dead for a while now. the paywallthing cant affect them
Black Cat Scanlations didn't get taken down because of paywalls, they got taken down because they stupidly released scanlations before the official release was out in Japan. Idiotically enough their previous group Jamini's Box got taken down for the exact same stupid reason.
It didn't really matter all that much because they continued most of their series in other groups, but still it was pretty stupid.

Multi-million dollar companies when they see a young broke student reading manga on an unofficial manga site built using the last breath of a dying star which provides amazing translations for free instead of reading it on their shitty website with dogshit translations which costs $99 per chapter (Tax not included).

It will stay as long as publishers allow it to. In other words, it will be taken down when we receive a DMCA request.
Some manga that have never had an official English translation have also been removed. Can they really do that? Don't they have no right to the English translation, and doesn't the English script belong to the scanlator, so that what they DMCA is not fully theirs anymore?

It's the publishers that have issued the DMCAs apparently, not the licensors. They're the copyright holders.
Shit, I just noticed that I had two manga I'd worked on that got chapters removed! The other one had been licensed though, so that made sense.

Copyright in the original work extends to any translations as well, so they have the right to do that.

Then you're completely disregarding facts. Have you noticed that people are boycotting K-manga because they think it's too expensive, and that people expect at most to pay $2 a month for a subscription like on viz or mangaplus, even though shueisha and viz are obviously losing money on having such a low price? You can make excuses all you want, but the issue these days are not a service problem, it's that people don't want to pay and basically expect to get manga for free.
Okay I don't entirely disagree with the "people don't want to pay" notion because due to the historically piss poor service piracy has essentially become the norm for most english manga readers, but it certainly doesn't help that these apps make actually paying for chapters such an absurd pain in the ass with its multiple currency systems and chapters being split up into several smaller chunks all to obfuscate how much you're actually spending on anything (which last time I checked with manga-up was as much as just straight up buying a full volume but that could've changed by now).

You guys suck, just close up and shut down if you're going to let the majority of your active catalogue be taken from you like this.
It doesn't matter for the purpose of this site, which mainly is as a scanlation community. That people can't pirate their licensed manga here anymore isn't really of any concern to be honest.
