Site Update - 3rd of June 2025

Hi y’all!

Our devs have been hard at work since our last update, and we’re excited to roll out a long-awaited feature: unavailable chapters.
In short, when a chapter is deleted or removed, it’ll now appear like so in the chapter listings (just like in v3).

Here’s what you can do with this update:

• View details, read markers and comments for any unavailable chapter.
• List or search chapters with unavailable ones hidden by default — or include them if you prefer.
• Search manga by whether they have unavailable chapters (default is to show both).

These new features are designed to keep all users —readers and translators— better informed and supported.
As always, we’ll continue working hard to improve MangaDex with new features, aiming to maintain a strong community and place where everyone can discover new series to enjoy.

Nuestros desarrolladores han estado trabajando duro desde nuestro último anuncio, y estamos entusiasmados de anunciar una función muy esperada: los capítulos no disponibles.
En pocas palabras, cuando un capítulo se elimine o retire, este aparecerá así en el listado de capítulos, tal y como lo hacían en la v3.

Esto es lo que puedes hacer con esta actualización:

• Ver los detalles, indicadores de lectura y comentarios de cualquier capítulo no disponible.
• Listar o buscar capítulos con los no disponibles ocultos por defecto, o incluirlos si lo prefieres.
• Buscar manga dependiendo de si tienen capítulos no disponibles o no (por defecto se muestran ambos).

Estas nuevas funciones están diseñadas para mantener a todos los usuarios—tanto lectores como traductores—mejor informados y respaldados.
Como siempre, seguiremos trabajando duro para mantener y mejorar MangaDex con nuevas funciones, con el objetivo de fortalecer nuestra comunidad y tener un espacio donde todos puedan descubrir nuevas series que disfrutar.

Gure garatzaileek gogor lan egin dute azken egun pare hauetan, eta aspalditik espero zen funtzio bat ateratzea lortu dute: eskuragarri ez dauden kapituluak.
Laburbilduz, kapitulu bat ezabatzen edo kentzen denean, modu honetan agertuko dira kapitulu zerrendan v3-n bezala.

Hona hemen eguneraketa honekin egin dezakezuna:

• Eskuragarri ez dagoen edozein kapituluren zehaztasunak, irakurketa markatzaileak eta iruzkinak ikusi.
• Kapituluak zerrendatu edo bilatu, lehenespenez eskuragarri ez daudenak kenduta—edo nahi izanez gero, hauek ikustaraziz.
• Manga bilatu eskuragarri ez dauden kapituluak dituzten edo ez dituzten arabera (lehenspenez biak erakusten dira).

Funtzio berri hauek erabiltzaile guztiak—irakurleak eta itzultzaileak—hobe informatuta eta babestuta egon daitezen diseinatu dira.
Beti bezala, MangaDex hobetzeko funtzio berriekin gogor lanean jarraituko dugu, komunitate sendo bat mantentzeko eta denek gustuko dituzten serie berriak aurkitzeko tokia izateko helburuarekin.

I'm not sure if you aren't aware or just trolling but, after the last massive chapter takedown due to DMCAs, this v3 feature reimplementation became a very urgent need, it doesn't really have anything to do with donations as far as anyone knows. That said, we still can't delete accounts, hopefully that's coming next time.

Probably the best "community" ran project of delivering high quality bandwidth of series for free that is clearly changing before our eyes. Even after they shutdown and reopened MangaDex, It was a whole thing;

This update was a need after dropping off the latest removals from the DMCA dumpster collector of an inbox. While I have expectations clearly the experience in quality I'm not going to get everywhere else so easily.

Man if only there was a way to implement this BEFORE the purge that literally destroyed this site, or heck, even pre-emptively notify users that these chapters will get removed soon.

I honestly don't know what you people imagine that this site's future will be like, but expecting to "maintain a strong community" after quite literally deleting the vast majority of the site's content (and then putting the burden on the TL groups), including niche translations that are now lost forever, is just full delusional.

Fool me once.

I honestly don't know what you people imagine that this site's future will be like, but expecting to "maintain a strong community" after quite literally deleting the vast majority of the site's content (and then putting the burden on the TL groups), including niche translations that are now lost forever, is just full delusional.

I get that MD had to remove them. But I feel that they could have went about it in a significantly better way. I found out literally two weeks after they did it. Likely the majority of users will never know, because MD did nothing to warn them. The only way I found out was that a series I was reading suddenly had the chapters removed.

Every single user of this site should have been notified of this happening. A front page notice, a list of the removed series, a post with details on what happened such as the companies that made the DMCA and the series. Plus a notice on the series pages that it was removed due to DMCA.

i can see the filter option to show unavailable chapters but could there be another column in the chapter list to showcase potentially an icon to explain why a chapter is unavailable? we have cases like "not translated" and "takedown" which aren't clear just from looking at the chapter list. without a clear indicator this could lead to fans/groups translate something that existed before but was removed due to official requests. now i know there's the more clear indicator on uploads in the first place, but if someone worked on a project and is only told at the last step he might regret uploading it, i feel that's simply too late.

Generally when a chapter is "unavailable", there are only two cases: The chapters were DMCA'd, or the group explicitly requests their chapters to be taken down, but they chose not to delete it permanently. In the latter case, MD made the chapter "unavailable" but not deleted, this is so should the group becomes inactive / disbanded in the future, they'd become "unlocked" and their work would be restored manually by MD staff.

So, in the event that we see a series with a massive amount of unavailable chapters, we can simply check the group in question - if they aren't banning MD from uploading their releases, it's clear that the chapters were DMCA'd and we shouldn't touch the title again.

ah, i missed that the translation groups are still shown after a chapter was removed. but what if any numbers of chapters were simply never translated and a group started to translate it some volumes in? for instance if they liked an anime adaption and decided not to translated adapted manga chapters thus starting on chapter +30 or something? will the chapters list only start at 31 then, following this example?
