I'm so tired of katanas man
Glorious nippon steel.

Made from the shittiest iron sand, since they didn't have access to surface-level iron ore deposits.

Folded 1000 times, since they couldn't figure out the Bessemer process to add carbon content, literally brute forcing charcoal dust.

I'm sure if they could make wootz steel they would have used broadswords instead.

God this one is always so masterfully done. It’s quite good at slice of life story-telling and makes unique characters even though there are literally shitloads of them he runs into throughout his life. I love that he comes back to the yosogi household every few decades. I hope he never loses touch with it.

Thank you for the translation!

Frieren had obvious story arcs though. This story is more meandering and steady in comparison, so I'm not sure how or where they'd choose to end a season.
Everything up to traveling east would be one season, all the east stuff would be its own season, maybe with less episodes. And coming back would be the start of a new season.

A lot of things to take in for this chapter, she looks a lot like her Kaeha but it's a bit foggy since I have reread this at all because I won't, is this how he feels Oh God but she does

Let's hope nothing depressing happens because we don't need heartbreaking shit T^T

The description was copied directly from official translation by J-Novel. In this case it's the right word: back in his home forest he was called "Child of the Maple", and maple trees belong to genus Acer
Both are decently reasonable seeing as the Æsir were the main group of Norse gods (Thor, Oden, and more) and elves originate from Norse mythology as semi divine beings living in a realm called álfheimr

There's a short passage in LN explaining his name when he first met Irena:
When I was a baby, I grabbed a maple leaf carried by the wind out of the air, so they named me Acer. That was more of a nickname than a
proper name, though. The elders always called me the Child of the Maple. Most spirits didn’t take names at all, so high elves didn’t often take names either. But that was rather inconvenient for daily life, so most of us had nicknames. You might think the distinction was only semantic, but if you said that to a high elf, they’d get very upset with you. And by that I mean they would immediately attempt to kill you. So if you had no intention of picking a fight with them, it’d be best to never bring it up.
It's a minor detail of little to no importance for the story, so the manga just glossed over that tidbit. Anyway, since manga readers already got used to the name Aesir, there's no harm in going along with it.

People would think its copying Frieren
Well, in a way, it might be (since this series was written after Frieren).

But both the story diverges a lot and explore aspects which Frieren didn't cover (atleast yet).

I mean, while it's not mentioned in Frieren, but this series does give an outlook on why Frieren never considered accepting Himmel, and how the Curse of Love is like, which Himmel suffered but we never got clarification, which this Series gives with how lives of short life-span race is messed-up when they fall in love with someone from a race with long life-span.

Also, Frieren is a story which covers a small aspect of Frieren's long life.
While this series is based on the PoV of a long lived Elf, aka., how the world of short life-span develops and ends, leaving behind only memories and sadness, and how those who are alive have to live on even if they end up alone for the rest of their life.
