Well, the cliffhanger from last chapter didn't pan out. The extra help job turned out to be low risk, and definitely extra low reward. The snail bounty hunt was played safe, so the profit, even for the hunters fighting the bounty monster, would be pretty low.

There definitely was a translation error regarding the car riding last chapter since Akira stayed in his car the entire time.

I still wonder what Shikarabe was aiming for here.
  • Clearly, it wasn't the reward.
  • It doesn't appear that he was trying to prop up Togami either, since the contract didn't list names, just a unit of 4 of which he'd be the leader - though I guess he can say that he participated in that bounty and thus observed and learned something from it. Katsuya's being made to do it too, so maybe it's just a power move of saying, oh yeah Togami did the same and actually participated in a huge monster bounty.
  • Was he just scoping out other's reaction to Akira again, to make sure he isn't going crazy?

Honestly, all it looked like was that he was using this job to chill, have a talk with another hunter he respects, get some introductions done with Akira.

Maybe he's being extra clever here by subtly suggesting to Akira that these huge monster bounty aren't too profitable and to lower his expectations for the pay. I mean Kurokawa imparted the advice to not look at the rewards too much and to focus on safety, flat-out admitted the profits for the snail hunt was low and then asked Shikarabe about how they did and Shikarabe was evasive, suggesting it wasn't all that great either.

It's not like Akira even has a clue what to expect from this bounty for his pay, so the only way he learns of it is if Alpha crunches the numbers and tells him. Except Alpha might consider that to be pointless - she doesn't want Akira to start a fight with experienced hunters. I think Akira is more chill than that though; I mean, if he gets paid poorly, he'll probably just turn down these kinds of requests in the future, he did say he was just trying this out and the contract, at least the way it was presented orally, was pretty vague about the remuneration.

I guess at this point, I expect that Shikarabe is definitely going to be unable to pay Akira to what he considers is appropriate for his level of his contribution, so the question is - will he keep quiet about that and hope Akira doesn't look too closely at the kill count versus reward or will he be upfront and ask if he's able to do anything to make it up to him in different ways.

I think Shirakabe was laying the groundwork for Akira's official track record. It wouldn't be believable to participate in the hunt, and it wouldn't make much money anyway.

But the escape route is an easy job to rack up quality reputation, and gives him pull to request Akira for another job later

I guess his main motive this time was to build up Togami's record as a counterweight against Katsuya. As the rising star of Drankam, Katsuya kept attracting young hunters to join his side, which in turn empowered the administration faction. Shirakabe wanted a new poster child "young but capable guy" to reduce that momentum.

I believe Shikarabe already tell the reason at earlier chapter. unless I remember it wrong.
its all part of political move, specifically the hunter rank of the kids in the "anti-desk-jokey-faction".

That was the plan for the Tankrantula hunt; Togami would get achievements for Akira's actions since they're both children and other hunters participating would report that the kid was good, and people not on the hunt would assume the Togami prodigy was the one they're talking about (especially since he's officially listed).

I'm talking about the reason for joining another hunt as extra help and inviting Akira (really forcing his hand by suggesting they might get hurt and be unable to pay up on the tankrantula bounty) along for that. The way that was set up, there was no aura farming for Togami. That job as extra help wasn't dangerous at all, so Togami could handle it just fine without needing Akira to inflate "what the kid did" for Drancam.
