i just noticed, that the description for MD that is displayed in the browser tab or in the google search results was changed just recently.
it now is: Mangadex - the Home of Comics and Manga

for a site called MANGAdex its a bit strange to put that second. And Comics seems to be totally off (for me, comics are western/ US style graphic novels).

Might there something be going on ?

I prefer the old one: High quality images, no ads
i think so too. but maybe we'll see a change in the future that made it necessary to remove these two attributes from the description.

EDIT: while we're at it: i dont like the new recommendations in the desription of the titles either.
the new tab next to related is ok but displaying the recommendations in the title description is out of place.
its not even working properly.

when i check this title https://mangadex.org/title/944570ea-1b4e-4f80-ada6-8b30aa5b9a2c/girls-und-panzer

the recommendations are totally off if you asked me.

this change was not announced or posted somewhere from MD staff ?

While I agree with you, you're better off upvoting the corresponding suggestions/leaving your suggestion over there.

Frontend changelog/announcements are posted sporadically only...

this is not just a frontend change. this is a change of what this webiste ist.

the Mangadex subreddit descriptin was changed now too.

Mangadex - a scanlator friendly Manga hosting site is gone.

read the new description and you will now what this website is being transformed into:

"MangaDex is an online manga reader that caters to all languages. Mangadex is made for content creators like mangaka and comic creators, translators, publishers and more, providing complete control over their content."

They are pulling a crunchy on us, trying to go 100% legal.

i bet a lot more content will be removed or restricted in the future. especially Hentai if they don't want to be excluded from Visa and Mastercard services.
Reading will require a paid account sooner than you think.

oh man i am heartbroken. the humble spirit that this site once had is dead.

I assumed your "they didn't announce this change" was about the addition of recommendations, idk what they'd announce about their description change.
If the change will have any of your hypothesised effects then I suppose those would be have to be announced. But even if MD wanted to, I don't see anything of the sort happening.

Seems like someone wrote a similar thread on Reddit and @Bartolumiu responded there so I'll just quote his reply here:
Hi there!

Just to answer some concerns: No, we're not going "legit" or "the Crunchyroll way". Point 12 of the FAQ still stands (https://mangadex.org/compliance/copyright-faq)

We're keeping both individual translators and translation groups right at the center like before. The only thing that changes is that we also want to include all of the small self-published authors that wanted to upload their own original stories on the platform, since we thought that they might've been kept a bit excluded. No "conspiracy theories" needed at all ♪ \( • ω • \ )

PS: If this reads a bit awkwardly, then mb, that's how I usually write... Also, typing on a phone while walking sure is awful... (٥↼_↼)

The level of conspiracy panic on this site would be amusing if it wasn't so damn stupid.

Go read some manga and stop worrying about things beyond your control.

If you can't do that because your headcannon is that the site is already dead and shambling around, leave.

Wait, wait, wait. Am I being gaslighted here? Wasn’t the whole NamiComi thing an attempt to go legit? Ala crunchyroll, fakku, comikey.

Mods can probably speak to this more precisely, but from what I recall seeing, it was more about site management than content - upkeep/moderation had gotten to the point where the original MD team were having a hard time keeping up, and NC was able to take some of that on.

MD has repeatedly said they have no intention of going the CR route, and I continue to be both amused and irritated (amuitated? irrimused?) by the number of folks who take that to mean exactly the opposite somehow.

Spoiler alert: NO
Source: Point 12 of this FAQ (and basically us repeating over and over again due to all of the conspiration theories out there).

@Bartolumiu maybe people have even forgotten what NamiComi is, I remember that at some point in V5 (2022?) there was an announcement from MangaDex team about the agreement of cooperation between both sites. Not only it existed independently from MangaDex, it was a perfectly legal site that saw benefit by being associated with MangaDex and thanks to that we have more content. Of course, there are some people that have posted in bad faith about conspiracy theories and many others with terrible comprehension skills, but they're clearly ignorant about important key points (that's why they're easily fooled).
