Hmm, you're right that it wouldn't be strong evidence, but if Rio's prints ARE there, she won't have a good excuse. Now if her prints aren't there, maybe it's not Rio or she handled it carefully, either way, back to square 1.

I agree, I felt that criticism unnecessary...

Now that an hour have passed since I read it, that line reminded me of this video about Japan becoming a "low desire society" where "wanting" in general (be it things, relationships, experiences, etc.) is seen as a source of misery. It also reminded me about this other video about Japan's young being the loneliest generation, which does not mention the low desire society concept, but it's not hard to draw some parallels between the two phenomena.

I think I will stop here. It's not like I actually know anything about these topics and Japan's current ethos, but those were the thoughts that came to mind after reading this.

I could also mention this lecture on how society transitioned from seeing people as "workers" to seeing them as "consumers" and how this seemingly rhetorical portrayal (because workers always had to "consume" goods, as everyone does) actually changed how people interact with each other in a broader scale. But I think this goes beyond the topic raised in the chapter.

Let me put this in another way: why Rio's fingerprint will in it if she wasn't with them? The last time they reunited was Mahoro's birthday party. She can't claim this bag was from that time since the photo of date probably also has her fingerprint.

Sort of. I am fine with manga logic, I didn't need a whole chapter of Kyouko malding and fishing for underserved sympathy.

The only time I want to see Kyouko again is if there is a two-pagers of her getting Isekai'd.
Rei can be flattened as well. They can have nice isekai adventure*, and then Kyouko can realize Rei is worthless and she'll be miserable and everyone who isn't a piece of shit wins.

*Covered in the spin-off manga "I was rejected as an affair partner by my friend's cheating husband, but now we are isekai'd together. Do I have another chance?"

Like a lot of real cases do. You grab all the fingerprints and extract those from people that have a valid reason to have touched it, and the ones that don't have a valid reason are your suspects.
