Welcome to 11 more days of telenovela in manga form!

As many readers correctly guessed, Rio's marriage is absolute dog water, contrary to her insistence on telling her friends everything was normal. It's so depressing that, looking back, a huge reason for the downfall of the friend group is that no one could be transparent. I really want to believe there was a timeline where the girls all helped each other out before everything came crashing down.

Rio is a clear case of a trophy wife. I mean, the way her husband forces her to cook dinner for his friends at home, when he is wealthy enough to eat anywhere he wants, and Rio's only role in said dinner seems to be just a waitress that he can display to his friends, was pretty telling (seriously why call her to the table just to pick up the plates???). He seems to be rich enough to hire an actual maid and chef to his the house for crying out loud.

Rei was a shitty husband, but his shittiness stemmed mainly from laziness and selfishness. He wanted no responsibility but all the benefits.

Itsuki, in certain aspects, is worse than Rei. He is intentionally malicious (look at his language when talking to Rio) and seems to get a kick out of keeping his wife on a leash. He could have everything in the world with his wealth, but he seems to much more enjoy playing with Rio's mind. Perhaps being a sociopath is his preferred sport.

It's kinda insane that, despite Mahoro having the worst time of her life with Rei, you can still look at Rio and think maybe she didn't have it much better, if it all.

I am so glad that the author gave us a proper, in-depth look at Rio's life. It completely recontextualizes the main story and makes it just that much more rich and engaging. Not to absolve Rio of guilt, but to just show that this was a horrible situation all around.

Well, Rio is a trophy wife, except that she works. It’s actually weird that Itsuki let her have her own business after marrying her, seeing how he expects her to be here for him so he can show off… or maybe he sees it as her hobby or sumn ? :thonk:
Thanks for the translation

I feel like it won't even matter all that much since in the main story we weren't shown any depth for Rio other than in ending so there's really not that much context to give. Well I already wasted 50 days for the main story so I will stick around

I cant think of any situation that could justify cheating on a faithful partner, not even domestic abuse because i'd expect it to be more than enough ground to get a favourable divorce. Still look toward to the story nonetheless
Explaining why she cheated isn't necessarily an excuse of said cheating. I think the author framed that pretty clearly by giving us 50 chapters of someone who suffered constantly because of cheating.
This just gives depth to a character by giving them motivation, even if the conclusion they reach and choices they make are the wrong ones, AKA your typical villain story.

I honestly think he's allowing her to work just to spite her. The remarks he made in this chapter about how she should be more mindful of his tastes and okay with last minute guests, like a restaurant owner would be with clientele, I think show he's fairly salty about her working and not being a stay-at-home wife.

I agree. I don't think the author is trying to justify Rio's actions. By giving Rio story some depth, we can see where it went all wrong.

I like to believe that at the end of the day, we take something from these stories with us. So we can learn from mistakes we didn't make. For example, in this chapter Rio had the chance to say "well, actually my husband..." and get her friends' inputs. Now, I understand this is a huge hurdle that takes a lot of trust and risks, but... Life has never been easy, and facing it alone is a hell of a challenge.

Domestic abuse can erode your self-esteem, and I can absolutely see a scenario where someone is desperate and the only way they can see anyone else helping them is by offering them sex. Putting "cheating on a faithful partner" as unjustifiable in the same sentence as domestic abuse is kind of crazy to me.

So we should feel sorry for her now? Yeah that's a NO from me... Maybe if we saw this side of the story in the main manga, going back and forth between her and Mahoro. But now after seeing all the shit she did, i don't feel even the slightest bit sorry for her.
It's pretty much implied she married him for status and money, and she didn't even want to try clearly addressing the situation with her best friends at least. It's already clear that Itsuki is a bad husband, but he is not on Rei's level... For now. We'll see what will happen in the next 10 ch.
