Hard to know if that's how they actually feel about their Knight Commanders. There were knights in ch.1 gossiping about the role in a way that implies that it's like that, but the opening of ch.1, and the fact that they're obviously searching the entire nation looking for the fmc, implies Knight Commanders and their abilities are far more respected than what the gossiping implies.

Actually, given that there's a absolutely huge dragon that's suddenly appeared and they need to get rid of, perhaps they're freaking out about needing a new Knight Commander as soon as possible, and perhaps they take decades to train.
Anyway, this is way too serious and long winded of a response to what was a joke comment, haha.

This is one those stories where the main character is totally unrelatable to me. I can't understand her at all. She seems like a total moron not only because she was apparently the only idiot that didn't know the knight commander was a crappy sacrificial position but also that she's fiercely loyal to people that actually hate her. Even if they don't actively hate her their treatment of her pretty clearly indicates they disdain her. Unless it turns out they've been brainwashing her for years she's basically an alien creature to me.
